Cantaloupe Facts
Cantaloupe derives its name from the town of Cantalupo, Italy, where cantaloupe seeds arrived from Armenia and were planted in the Papal Gardens in the 16th century. Cantaloupe is packed with Vitamin A and antioxidants. That means protection against colon, prostate, breast, endometrial, lung, and pancreatic cancers.

Granny Smith Apples
Granny Smith apples are often used in baking because of their high acidity and ability to hold their shape when cooked. Try baked into sweet or savory pies, tarts, or meat pastries; add to savory bread stuffing, risotto or potato pancakes. Their sweet-tart flavor is a great addition to soups, smoothies and sauces. Because they are slow to brown when cut, they are perfect diced and added to fresh preparations such as salads and salsas or sliced and paired with cheese.

Bell Peppers
Bell peppers also known as sweet peppers are native to Mexico , Central and South American region from where they spread to the rest of the world by Spanish and Portuguese explorers during 16th and 17th centuries and now grown widely in many parts of the world as an important commercial crop. Bell peppers belong to the nightshade family of plants. They come in a variety of colors including yellow, green, orange, red, purple, white black etc. Interesting enough there are peppers of the colors brown, white and black! The green ones are the most common in groceries and supermarkets.

Do you have Box Tops for Education
in your classroom?

It would be VERY helpful if you could do one of the following:
  1. Send a messenger with the Box Tops to Room AC214 (in the Discovery Hallway across from Ms. Tagliamonte's Art Room)
  2. Put them in Ms. Maguire's staff room mailbox (if they fit!)
  3. Reply to this email asking for a representative to come pick them up - please indicate room number AND a good time to pick up.
Please remind students/families to submit Box Tops!!  Informational flyers are attached if you'd like to send info home.

Remember, ALL our learning communities benefit from the proceeds of this program, but we can't raise the money without everyone's help!
