Pears
Pear wood is used to make furniture, musical instruments, and wood carvings. It is also used to make wooden kitchen utensils because it doesn’t impart any color or odor to the food and because it is tough enough to withstand repeated trips through the dishwasher without splintering or warping. Architect’s rulers are made from pear wood because it doesn’t warp. http://www.healthdiaries.com/eatthis/20-interesting-facts-about-pears.html

Grape Tomatoes
  • Originally developed in the 1990’s, these tiny tomatoes have become popular because of their sweetness and one-bite size.
  • Originally tomatoes were considered poisonous by Europeans. It was thought if you ate a tomato, its poison would turn your blood to acid—aren’t we glad that turned out to be just a myth!

BAND

Band lesson schedules for this week are outside the 7/8 teams doors, and by the band room. Today is a lot of flutes and clarinets.

Jr. Band with 6th graders is rehearsing tomorrow.

WEATHER

There should be several inches of snow this morning.  Unfortunately, the snow probably won't be deep enough to use the snow tubes without scratching them on the ground.  They will only be put out if there is more snow than expected by your recess time.

Poinsettias
Each year Mrs. Biggie organizes a poinsettia sale as a school fundraiser.  Many staff in the building order plants.  Quite a few plants are purchased and delivered around the city (a restaurant, a dentist office, a bank and SATEC).  Here one of our teachers, Paul Widjeskog, picked up his plant at SACS.  He gets one for his wife each year.

Nutcracker Performance for Families
On Thursday evening 12-1-2016 hundreds of family members came out to watch the Nutcracker performed by 1st-4th graders.  As it had been the previous day, the Nutcracker went of smoothly.  Excellent work students!  The hope is that each fall there will 1st-4th grade performance in the upcoming years. In recent years there has only been one play for older students performed in the winter or spring.  A play by the older students will come early in 2017.    More pictures can be viewed on the library TV.
