REPORTS AND PICTURES
RESPECT NEEDED FOR NESTING DUCK IN PARKING AREA Our farm to school coordinator, Mrs. Smith, was weeding the flower beds in the front of the school when she discovered a nesting duck. It is amazing the duck chose this central and busy spot to nest. You can barely see an egg below the duck on the bottom right hand picture. If you walk along the flower beds, please try to stay at least 10 feet away from the mother duck. If she is undisturbed, and the eggs are fertile, they should hatch in about three weeks. Thank you. BIKE TRAILER Each year in the late spring a "bike smart" trailer arrives at St. Albans City School to provide two weeks of equipment use for our students' P.E. cycling unit. The trailer comes with dozens of bicycles and helmets for students to learn and practice with. Our P.E. staff teach basic riding and safety skills. Instruction of the bicycling unit focuses on 4-6th graders, an age group eager to gain bicycle experience. At the end of the learning unit, six graders take a day-long field trip on the rail trail to the Abbey, to try out their new and improved abilities. The pictures below show just a fraction of the school's students enjoying this amazing learning opportunity, sponsored by Local Motion and RiseVT. RED NOSE DAY: TEAM USA On May 25th Team USA honored the efforts of National Red Nose Day by wearing red noses or bracelets. They helped bring awareness to a cause organized by Comic Relief Inc. Funds raised on Red Nose Day supports projects and programs that ensure kids are safe healthy, educated and empowered in all 50 states and in some of the poorest communities in Latin America, Asia and Africa. Great Job Team USA!
This LINK has two powerful videos that show how Red Nose Day has helped eliminate poverty.
RENAISSANCE TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITIES During the middle of Wednesday, 5-24-2017, the Renaissance team gathered outside for an hour of team building challenges. They ran backwards, carried balls, passed balls backward and tossed hula hoops -all while working in clusters to compete with other groups. Lots of smiles. |
