SUMMER PROGRAMMING REPORTS AND PICTURES
JITTERBOTS 7-17-2017
Campers made fun little jitterbots -robots that skitter around on legs made with markers. The patterns made by these jitterbots are often quite interesting. Pictures by Mrs. Brace.
HUMANITIES CAMP
Humanities camp had a blast today 7-18-2017. They played a game where they had to coat their noses with Vaseline and move six cotton balls from one bowl to the other. Once all six have been moved by the first player on each team the second player then has to move them back to the bowl they started with. First team to complete moving the cotton balls successfully wins. Oh and NO USING HANDS! Pictures by Mrs. Brace.
LUNCH FOOD
Mrs. Brace was curious about how our lunches are being packaged. She was able to catch up with Chef Jason to get some answers. Video and Pictures by Mrs. Brace.

BICYCLE PUMP REPAIRED
The bicycle pump at the front of our building was found to be broken in June. A pump head replacement was ordered and has arrived and been installed. Now anyone who needs air for their bicycle tires can fill up here at St. Albans City School. The fill tube is longer than previously which should make the task easier.
ST. ALBANS CITY SCHOOL DUCKS AND CHICKEN UPDATE
The two adults ducks (mom and dad) that once roamed the grass outside our kindergarten classrooms have happily joined Mrs. Cox's mother's duck in her backyard in St. Albans. All three ducks stick closely together as a flock. Three of the eggs moved with the pair of ducks hatched and those young ones are thriving. Additionally, the chicken that seemed to have bonded with the duck pair when they were at City School was added to Mrs. Cox's mom's flock of six other chickens. She and they are happily scratching around the back yard and vegetable garden.
FITNESS CAMP THROWING AND CATCHING SKILLS
On Tuesday Nate Yandow and the fitness campers had a wonderful morning session of practicing their throwing and catching skills. They used whiffle balls and cones. This activity was a relief after many became sore following Monday's strengthening activities. The pictures of the kids clustered together to try and catch the ball occurred in a game of 500 where each participant scored 100 points for catching the ball in his/her cone. The first to 500 points was considered the winner.
MASTER GARDENER SITE APPROVAL
St. Albans City School has long been engaged in gardening and the volume of the garden spaces has grown larger. With expanded garden areas have come increased work to maintain the growing spaces. To assist the school's Farm to School program, coordinator and master gardener, Heather Smith, recently reached out to the Master Gardener certifying program in the region. All master gardeners have to complete many volunteer work hours before achieving certification. Our site will now be an approved site for volunteers to come and work. It will be a huge boost to our gardening efforts, particularly in Summers where adult and student help is thin. Master gardeners Beret and Kitty checked over the wet school gardens and orchards on Monday the 17th of July.
