AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMMING ATHLETICS:  LINK TO THE UP-TO-DATE ATHLETIC CALENDAR Friday 3:15: 7/8 Girls WILL NOT practice this Friday Students who need to take the late bus must register for it before 12:00 noon - there is no late bus on Fridays. CHORUS Chorus will run for the whole year every Wednesday and Friday from 2:00-2:40. You will be dismissed from chorus so bring your belongings with you. BAND Jazz Band is rehearsing today at 2. Next weeks band lessons are for the 7th grade, so it is an A Week schedule. Mr. Mehaffey is not accepting any more violin and cello sign ups. We are full. Please bring your instrument to the band room for adjustments as soon as you get it.

Check your email and complete a short application to get a spot in Codesmyths this year. Returner applications are due no later than Tuesday, September 26!   All students interested in applying to Codesmyths (who have never participated before), stay tuned for more information in announcements about our kick-off event and application process! A team creative thinking and problem solving competition that runs from mid-October to March 17 (state competition day).  (Typically one practice a week, time is based on volunteer coach’s schedule) Who can participate? Any Maple Run student in grades K-8 (no cost to participate) who is willing to  use their imagination and skills, can work together on a team and wants to think outside the box! Want to learn more about the program for school year 2017-2018? Come to a fun spontaneous problem night to learn more about this program and participate in activities!   When? September 22nd in the SATEC cafeteria from 6:30-8.  Please have an adult come with each student. PICTURES AND REPORTS DREAMERS STONE SOUP PROJECT - PART 2 In the past week and a half all the Dreamers' students have been taking part in the Stone Soup project. They used the children's story about stone soup to provide a platform for teaching students about gardening, harvesting, and cooking healthy food. Along the way they also learned a great deal about working together in a cooperative manner. For many children this was the first time doing food-related preparation and for using sharp kitchen implements. With luck this project will help our young students develop a taste for vegetables, or at least a willingness to try them. LINK TO 28 PICTURES RECYCLING GUIDELINES We love recycling as a school. Thank you everyone for doing your part to help the planet.  Our custodians are gently pointing out how some inappropriate items are making their way into the recycling bins. Food/drink items or sticky packaging will contaminate the recycle bins. Bins like the one below will then have to be washed out. We ask you to look closely at the picture below and try to avoid dumping any of these items in recycling.  Much appreciated by the custodians. PAINTED LADY BUTTERFLIES OUTSIDE TEAM USA DREAMERS - GLEASON PRE-K COTTAGE PICTURES LINK TO 18 PICTURES BFA STUDENTS WORKED AT SACS Freshman students came to St. Albans City School on Thursday morning to help with our gardens. Many are former SACS students and were excited to be here and to provide a form of community service. Mrs. Smith directed their work in the pollinator gardens, the butterfly garden, the outdoor classroom, our orchard and also the market garden space. Everyone had a good time. Thank you BFA.
