WATERMELON
Not only does it quench your thirst, it can also quench inflammation that contributes to conditions like asthma, atherosclerosis, diabetes, colon cancer, and arthritis.

Over 1,200 varieties of watermelon are grown worldwide.

Watermelon is an ideal health food because it doesn’t contain any fat or cholesterol, is high in fiber and vitamins A & C and is a good source of potassium.

RECESS WEATHER

It is going to be a warm day for outside recess.  The snow tubes will not be put out if conditions are not safe or if the snow tubes will be damaged.

COMMON SENSE ON THE SLEDDING HILL

1-2 people per tube

Don't aim for other people when going downhill

Walk up the sides of the hill to avoid being hit

Stay away from sliding down the side of the hill that leads to the concrete block in the field

If too many people are on the sledding hill, then find something else to do

JILL, THE TALKING TRASH CAN Thanks to Mrs. Sawyer for this content
Our cafeteria hosted some special guests for lunch this past week- Jill, a talking trash can, her brother Jack, a blue recycling bin, and their pet pig Scrappy, a compost pail. The trio of waste receptacles visited students to give some reminders about where different kinds of waste should be going.

Items that should be composted:

  • foods that you didn’t finish eating,
  • a peel from an orange or a banana,
  • the rest of your milk.
Recycled items should include:

  • cardboard
  • paper
  • plastic bottles or containers -they need to be rinsed out first.
Things that should NEVER find their way into the trash can

  • metal utensils and plastic cups (that we can wash and reuse)

Stop. Think. Sort.

If students have uneaten/unopened food, it can go into the share-fridge where anyone who might need a little extra to eat or drink is welcome to help themselves to it.
