EVENTS AND NOTICES

ORCHESTRA
New Orchestra teacher, Mr. Rusty Charpentier came by St. Albans City School to see how he could let you know about joining the district orchestra. He decided that a short video might be best as a way to get the information across to you. Would you be interested in playing in the Maplerun Unified School District Orchestra? If so, check out this brief video he made.  LINK TO 2-MINUTE LONG VIDEO

Here is another offering you might want to consider from Mr. Charpentier:

"New at SACS and all MRUSD schools this year, students may now enroll in Orchestra! In Orchestra students can learn the skills necessary to play the violin, viola, cello, or bass. If you're curious about playing an orchestral instrument, come to the instrument "petting zoo" on September 5th any time between 4-6pm in the SATEC Kiva. You'll get to see performance demonstrations, try each of the orchestral instruments, and learn about how to participate in your school's orchestra program. Follow the link to see and share the PETTING ZOO FLYER.  If you already know you'd like to join, you can fill out this ORCHESTRA REGISTRATION FORM and Mr. Charpentier will contact you with further information. Contact Alex "Rusty" Charpentier at acharpentier@maplerun or 802-752-2777 with any questions.

REPORTS AND PICTURES

IMPORTANT RECESS INFORMATION
We want everyone to get outside, move their bodies and enjoy time in the outdoors. To make recess time more appealing to students we offer access to different kinds of recess balls. Please note that our budget for recess equipment is limited so it is imperative we look after the equipment we have. When all the balls disappear, each team will have to purchase balls for use from their own funds if they want something to play with.

Request: Each team should return all equipment to the recess shed at the end of their recess that is not being used by some other team's students. The last team out for the day should collect all recess equipment and return it to the shed.

Aside from using the large playground with its slides and swings, there are games to consider playing during recess time.

Playground GAME Options

GAGA PIT: Up to 20 people in the pit at a time. Games typically last 2-minutes but you will want to play more. Lots of dodging and bending. A relatively benign form of dodgeball. I would be surprised it this game is not the most popular today and during recess time this year. Rules are posted on the side of the pit. How to Video. Just watch first 45 seconds: https://www.youtube.com/embed/C7AHiuScP54?rel=0

KICK BALL: The always popular game of kickball uses baseball/softball rules. We have plenty of kickballs for teams to use.

FOUR SQUARE: There are three courts. A half dozen people per court works well, with four playing at a time. How to Video: https://www.youtube.com/embed/hphPQli2yw8?rel=0

HOPSCOTCH: We now have one hopscotch pattern painted on the sidewalk near the gaga pit. It seems to be a magnet for younger kids although many do not know the rules. Try it out. How to Video: https://www.youtube.com/embed/9ikg9qnWrDU?rel=0

TETHERBALL: There are two tetherball poles at school, one near the playground and one next to the cafeteria. Two people play at a time, although our students tend to try 4-6 people on the court at a time (Not safe. You will be beaned in the head by the ball). How to Video: https://www.youtube.com/embed/cA5yumzPyZs?rel=0

GAMES TO CHECK OUT FROM THE INDOOR RECESS CLOSET (see Mr. Craib)

CROQUET: Try this intelligent game out in the girl’s soccer field. Ms. Aliquo on the Incredibles team is the expert. How to Video: https://www.youtube.com/embed/l-YtPYZ_534?rel=0

BOCCE BALL: Another thinking/skill related field game. Give it a try. How to Video: https://www.youtube.com/embed/2hhN6S-1urM?rel=0

CORN HOLE TOSS: A skilled lawn game. Bean bags are thrown at a raised platform with a hole. The game got its name because the bags are often filled with dried corn. How to Video: https://www.youtube.com/embed/uNFLTLvPwK4?rel=0
