UVM BASKETBALL PLAYERS VISITED SACS
Three UVM Varsity basketball players and an assistant coach came to St. Albans City School to talk to 6th, 7th and 8th graders. In their presentation, they discussed the importance of making good choices regarding friends and behaviors, as well as the need to maintain focus on gaining strong academic skills. They noted that while each of the athletes presenting has worked extremely hard on their athletic skills, they also realize that basketball is not an activity most people can make a living from well beyond college. Having a plan, and the work ethic to reach one's goals, is essential to being a success as an adult beyond school. LINK TO 8 PICTURES OF THE TALK

After fielding questions about basketball and their backgrounds, the four men repaired to the outdoor basketball court to shoot some hoops with the students. That was a very popular activity, in spite of the fact that it took away much of their lunch time.  LINK TO 14 PICTURES of the basketball play outdoors.

BFA STUDENTS SET TO WORK ON SACS WETLANDS TRAILS
Mr. Jacob Holzberg-Pill toured to wetlands with a number of BFA students to consider making trail upgrades. The goal is to help the Voyagers community make the wetlands accessible to all St. Albans City School students. Right now the existing trails are very overgrown and soggy in places.  These BFA students plan to come to City School in the upcoming weeks to remove invasive trees and plants that are crowding the pathways and that don't belong there. They may also be able to make slight changes in trails to avoid wet spots. Mr. Holzberg-Pill is extremely knowledgeable about Vermont botany and ecology. Several of our former students were in the group that visited. 10-22-2019

WALKING WEDNESDAY RESULTS
110 students and 11 adults walked into school on Wednesday morning. Team Triumph had the largest turnout as is often the case. It is impressive to see such a strong team commitment to physical activity.

It helps if everyone who walks signs in. Large numbers help us get support from RiseVT and other organizations for pencils, stickers, and reflective vests among other things.

CORRECTION: In the past three Walking Wednesday reports, the PreK and kindergarten walking data were omitted by mistake on the graphs. This was an unfortunate st of errors because we definitely want to recognize all students who walk. The corrected graphs can be seen below. On Wednesday morning, seven PreK and kindergarten students walked to school. Picture below.

FORMER STUDENT IN UNIFIED HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS
Attached is a picture of Kaleidoscope’s Jim Naylor and former student Riley Bascomb with his gold medal from a unified sports soccer event. Jim coaches the Unified Sports teams at BFA, along with his wife Kasia, and got Riley involved in this program as well as guided him through Wednesday’s competition. Riley attended St. Albans City School for years and is sorely missed.
