PAJAMA DAY (11-24-2020)

Quite a few learning communities or individual classrooms chose to make the day before Thanksgiving break pajama day. Staff and students came dressed in pajamas. Here are a few images from around the school.  Learning communities can share more pajama day pictures with the announcements if they wish. Send to mcraib@maplerun.org

DISCOVERY SCIENCE - KUTKA

Students in two different pods (classrooms) mixed several liquids (vinegar & cabbage juice) and various solids (tums, alka seltzer, honey, sugar, bread, banana, tea, cinnamon) together to see what would best neutralize acids. Prior to this step, they had a lesson and discussion on human digestion and the purpose of acids and bases found throughout the digestive system. Once they had an essential understanding of how food is processed in the body, students were asked to consider what kind of commercial or home remedies work best for dealing with excess stomach acid, e.g. a cause of the commonly experienced “heart burn”.  11-24-2020. Careful observation and classroom discussion led to some great learning. Link to 28 6th Grade Pictures.   Link to 34 5th Grade Pictures.

ADVENTURERS STEAM CLASS - RANKIN

Ms. Rankin brings STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and the Arts) into PreK and Kindergarten classrooms on a regular basis. On Tuesday, 11-24-2020, Ms. Darcie, as the students call her, had Ms. Farrell’s students use art supplies to create birds that would fly with a homemade wind tunnel. The 34 pictures linked here show the creation of the flying objects and how the flight system looked like when each child got to test their creation out. Everyone had a chance to return to their seats and make upgrades to their work before flying it a second time.  Link to 1 Minute of Video Clips
