BRIGHT BEGINNINGS ALUMINUM TAB COLLECTION
Every year the learning communities at St. Albans City School participate in Stewardship projects that improve the environment, reduce waste, or improve the lives of others. The communities that host each project maintain and educate the rest of the school on their learning.
This year the Preschool and Kindergarten classes are collecting aluminum tabs as part of a reduce, reuse, and recycle project.
The collected tabs go to the Shriners organization. The tabs are sold to a recycling company, and the money collected (from weighted tabs) is used to fund transportation for children to and from the Shriners Hospitals. The melted aluminum also makes lightweight medical equipment to support children’s needs. The tabs are the only pure aluminum part of the can, and the cans may still be returned for deposit even after the tabs have been removed. This fundraiser for the Shriners Hospital has been going on since 1989.
If members of our community are interested in supporting this effort, your pull tabs can be dropped off at St Albans City School or any of the other collection sites in our community; Peoples Trust, Beverage Mart, NMC, Immigration, Hometown, Hannaford, Messenger, Citizens Bank, Senior Center.
