HARVEST OF THE MONTH
December | Winter Squash
Winter squash belongs to the Curcubitaceae
family which includes cucumbers, summer
squash, gourds, and melons.  Winter squash,
in comparison with its fair weather cousin,
summer squash, has a thicker skin and
denser, firmer flesh. It is perfectly suited for
use in soups, stews, and casseroles. Don't
forget about it's sweet uses too! It is great in
breads and desserts. There are dozens of
varieties that come in all shapes, colors, and
sizes. Check out this neat visual guide to
winter squashes from Serious Eats. Winter
squash is a rich source of fiber, protein,
potassium, magnesium, and vitamins A, C,
and B6.

LIKELY RECESS WEATHER

By recess time it will be fine to head out, assuming you are wearing warm clothing.

PICTURES AND REPORTS

DAY OF CODE
The Day of Code is the St. Albans City School response to the worldwide Hour of Code during Computer Science Education Week, December 3rd-9th. On Tuesday 12-4-2018 throughout the building adults and students wearing Day of Code Staff t-shirts made in our Makerspace, led hands-on activities that connect with programming.  For the last three months fifteen 7th and 8th-grade students, as a part of their Unified Art class with Mrs. Borst, planned Day of Code. For Tuesday they were joined by the Unified Arts teachers to provide an experience for every class. Here are pictures of some of the Day of Code experiences. More will follow tomorrow.
