HARVEST OF THE MONTH
December | Winter Squash
Winter squash belongs to the Curcubitaceae
family which includes cucumbers, summer
squash, gourds, and melons.  Winter squash,
in comparison with its fair weather cousin,
summer squash, has a thicker skin and
denser, firmer flesh. It is perfectly suited for
use in soups, stews, and casseroles. Don't
forget about it's sweet uses too! It is great in
breads and desserts. There are dozens of
varieties that come in all shapes, colors, and
sizes. Check out this neat visual guide to
winter squashes from Serious Eats. Winter
squash is a rich source of fiber, protein,
potassium, magnesium, and vitamins A, C,
and B6.

LIKELY RECESS WEATHER

Definitely Colder. Dress warmly if you plan to go out.  The snow is too shallow for snow tubes or snowshoes.
