PICTURES AND REPORTS

ST. ALBANS CITY SCHOOL HISTORY
This is a current picture of Mrs. Lamb, who is our Family Consumer Science Teacher.  Mrs. Lamb was a middle school student here at SACS, back in 1970 – 1971, when the school first opened.  Can you find Mrs. Lamb in her 7th-grade class photo?
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/rdqiKhXnkX_xZNja-fcvEEkeNqGzMMiZVcf67cNRs7w-Z9J40x8um6xevSyiOmdpGo4WsFAbMi9L5NWsn1bfc4y0U20D1MwiuKf3TtjV6J8J5L-lSin9rZnuj-jOabN85ZvF5PbW

As part of the St. Albans City School’s 50th anniversary, the UA team is asking students to find the answers to the following questions.  It is a fun way to learn what life was like for Mrs. Lamb when she was a middle school student at St. Albans City Elementary School.  We are hoping each community will pick a question to answer. Your research will be shared with everyone in the announcements. Have fun learning about 1970!
Mrs. Lamb is going to the SACS middle school dance.
1. What type of outfit would Mrs. Lamb wear to an 8th-grade dance?
Probably not leggings or flip flops!
Provide pictures of teenage fashion in 1970
2. What would her future husband be wearing to the dance?
3.  What would be a popular hairstyle for Mrs. Lamb? What were the hairstyles in 1970?
    (check her class photo)
4. What would her future husband have for a haircut?
5.  What style of shoes and or sneakers were kids wearing in 1970?
6.  Mrs. Lamb is hoping to hear some of the top hits in 1970.  What are the top songs she might hear?
7.  Mrs. Lamb is up on all the latest dances.  What dances would you see her doing?
8.  Mrs. Lamb is watching her favorite TV shows while dreaming of the dance.  What were some popular kid TV shows in 1970?
9.  Mrs. Lamb likes the commercials because they advertise the latest and greatest electronics?  How did kids play music, make phone calls, do research, find a friend's phone number or address?  Were there any BIG inventions in 1970?
10.  Some commercials were just plain funny.  What were some funny kid commercials in 1970?  (check YouTube)
11.  Mrs.  Lamb is also thinking about buying her young cousin a birthday gift.  What were the popular toys in 1970?
12.  Mrs. Lamb watches a few minutes of the news before she leaves for the dance.  What news headlines might she be watching in 1970?
13.  Mrs. Lamb and future Mr. Lamb are going out to eat before the dance.  They picked McDonalds!  How much was a big mac in 1970?  How much is it today?  On the way, her mom stopped to buy a gallon of milk. How much was the milk in 1970 compared to today?  Mrs. Lamb buys 2 candy bars to bring to the dance.  What was the cost of each candy bar compared to today?
14.  Mrs. Lamb's mom drives them to McDonalds.  What were the popular cars in 1970?  Future Mr. Lamb's mom picks them up in their truck.  What did trucks look like in 1970?
15.  Mrs. Lamb wants to impress future Mr. Lamb, so she studies up on sports news.  Who were popular sports figures that she could slip into a conversation to wow future Mr. Lamb?
16.  The dance was so much fun that future Mr. Lamb asks Mrs. Lamb to go to a movie.  What were popular kid movies in 1970?  How much is a single movie ticket in 1970 and what would it cost today?
17.  Mrs. Lamb is so excited that she says, "that's sick"!  Probably not what was popular in 1970.  What was a popular saying in 1970?  Were innovative words added to the Webster dictionary in 1970?
18.  Future Mr. Lamb wonders if he should get a part-time job.  What was the minimum wage in 1970 and what is it today?   He also thinks about enlisting in the air force when he turns 18.  Who were our president and vice president in 1970?
They all live happily ever after!

*Mrs. Lamb is in the 3rd row from the front and the 6th student from the left.* Were you able to find her?
