PICTURES AND REPORTS
BEES RETURNING TO TRAVELERS' CLASSROOM Several years ago Travelers agreed to host an in-classroom beehive. Their hive is fully enclosed in a glass and wood housing with an entry and exit tube through a classroom window. The students can view the bees in the hive with no danger of being stung. The project stalled when sidewalk construction outside the classroom disturbed the entryway to the hive. The bees chose to leave the hive and swarm away. Since then, the farm to school program and Travelers have been eager to re-establish the classroom hive. Local beekeepers were contacted and arrangements have been made to install a new set of bees. They should be housed in Travelers within the next week. In the pictures below, the beekeepers removed the old hive to bring back to their farm to clean up and establish the new set of bees. They will be back with the new bees shortly. RISEVT CAME TO REWARD GOLD LEVEL CLASSROOMS On Wednesday a half dozen classroom groups took turns heading out to the fields for some time with three RiseVT representatives. Mr. Morretti, a master game master, provided the fun through a variety of tag games and physical challenges. Even though the day was a bit cold and gray the students appeared to have a great time. They left with RiseVT T-shirts to mark their achievement of following multiple healthy exercise and food behaviors. Check out this LINK TO 68 PICTURES including some of the Voyagers, Dreamers, Navigators, and Imagination students and staff. THINGS THAT FLY BOTTLE ROCKETS
7th and 8th graders in the unified arts elective, "Things that Fly" tested out two bottle rocket launchers and there soda bottle rockets. The bottles get half filled with water, jammed onto the launchers and then pumped up to high pressure with a bicycle pump. Once released the bottles can fly over a 100 feet through the air with a very exciting pop. Getting wet is often a side effect of this launcher design. Nobody seemed to mind.
PLATE TECTONICS LESSON Renaissance students looked for volcanos on maps of the earth and Pacific rim as a way of understanding the dynamics of plate tectonics. 5-28-2019.
