EVENTS AND NOTICES

IMPORTANT BUS INFORMATION

Children are assigned to one route and one stop only (unless already approved by the administration for daycare situations). For the safety of your children, bus passes will not be given unless for an emergency and at the discretion of the administration. Please make alternate arrangements other than changing a bus. The process for changing any dismissal plans for your children is challenging and difficult and we want to be sure your child gets where they need to go.

Please go over these rules with your children: LINK TO RULES

BOX TOPS
We are collecting paper box tops for education and submitting them the last week of October.  We will do one final paper submission in the spring. Paper box tops are going away and will now be digital. To participate please download the app.  Please turn in any collected box tops to Ms. Vaillancourt @ the front desk.

SPECIAL NEEDS HOCKEY PROGRAM
The St. Albans Skating Association is proud to support the 2nd year of its Special Needs Hockey Program.  All sessions are held at the Collins Perley Sports Center!  Registration is currently underway.  It is free to try and there are scholarships to cover all costs if need be.

Information can be found at https://www.facebook.com/SASA-Special-Hockey-230532937768334/

Rules for the Chicken Coop
(from the chicken managers of team USA)

We’re very excited about the chickens becoming part of the St. Albans City School family!

1.  Be gentle with the chickens. When picking them up, hold their wings down or let them perch on your arm or shoulder
If they seem like they do not wish to be picked up, please respect their space. Grabbing at them can hurt their wings or pull their feathers. They may peck you or claw you.

2.  No more than 6 students in the coop at one time. Too many people scares them; please take turns.

3.  Please do not spread food in the chicken coop. You can leave fruit in the glass dishes for the chickens to eat.

4.  Place the chickens back in the coop when you leave. It is okay if the chickens leave the coop; you can leave the door open. It will get closed at the end of the school day by Team USA.

5.  All of the chickens have names. Ask Team USA students what their names are and keep your eyes out for pictures!

6.  When you leave, make sure to use the hand sanitizer.

7.  If you see a problem, let someone in Team USA know and we’ll take care of it!

8th GRADE PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR BOOK FAIR

We are looking for parents of 8th graders who would like to volunteer with the book fair.  It is held on September 26th from 7:30am until 7:00pm. All proceeds go to benefit the 8th-grade class trip.  Please contact Margaux Vaillancourt @ mvaillancourt@maplerun.org.  Thank you!

THE ONLY SEPTEMBER WALKING WEDNESDAY WILL BE ON THE 11th
Get ready to join us this week.
LINK TO ROUTES AND TIMES

In October we will have Walking Wednesdays every Wednesday.

WALKING SCHOOL BUS PROGRAM IS EXPANDING WITH STUDENT LEADERS
We have extended our recruiting process to find a few more student leaders. The expanded program will begin daily walks to school shortly. Stay tuned. In the meantime, if you wanted to be a leader and need an application form, then please see Mr. Craib in the makerspace or email him to request a form at mcraib@maplerun.org

RENAISSANCE NEEDS YOUR COMPOST!
Renaissance wants your breakfast and snack compost from your classrooms. Please bring it to the Renaissance community and dump it into the buckets at the end of the hall by 2:00 pm each day. Renaissance will compost the food waste to make nutrient-rich soil for the school gardens.

Please make sure there is no dairy or trash in the compost.

Thank you!

FIRE DRILL
Each month St. Albans City School holds some kind of a safety drill. Most are fire drills and on Monday it was one of those. Children flooded quietly and quickly out of the building in the early afternoon when the alarm went off. The whole evacuation was over in a few minutes and students were soon back in their classrooms at their regular activities. 9-9-2019
