To address that need this year, the makerspace team purchased a sewing machine. Mrs. Borst, Ms. Bertucci and (on Wednesday) Mrs. Biggie and are taking turns teaching students the rudiments of sewing. Here is Mrs. Biggie working with two students to make a hair scrunchie. 11-20-2019 CURRENT OPERATION HAPPINESS DATA  11-20-2019 THE SACS FARM TO SCHOOL PROGRAM We established our farm to school program six years ago (Link to SACS Farm to School website - pictures and videos are from across the years of the program). Its goal is to bring healthy food to our students and to provide them with food from local farms whenever possible. An additional goal is to establish a positive relationship with nutritious food that will last them a lifetime. Ultimately, we want students to know how their food choices impact their bodies, the environment, and their communities at large. St. Albans City School is not alone in its Farm to School ambitions. Here are some slightly dated facts about Farm to School Programs in Vermont. Farm to School participation numbers are thought to have increased since this census. Nearly 2/3 of Vermont schools offer farm to school programming, and 95% of those serve local foods. 28,024 Vermont students participated in farm to school activities in the 2011-2012 or 2012-2013 school years. 38 districts had Pre-K participation in the 2011-2012 school year. Vermont districts spent $1,380,280 on local products in the 2011-2012 school year, an average of 16.2% of their food budgets on local foods - the highest of the New England states. Since 2007, Vermont’s Farm to School Grant Program has supported 96 schools (30% of Vermont public schools). Schools with farm to school programs report twice the national average in vegetable consumption. ATHLETICS ATTENTION ALL WINTER ATHLETES! There will be a winter sports informative meeting held Tuesday, November 19th from 5:00-6:30 pm in the cafeteria. You will also meet the coaches. You will receive all paperwork needed in order to participate in your sport. It will be due PRIOR to participation in the first practices the week of December 2nd. Your full schedule will be handed out at the meeting and during the first week of practices as well. EVENTS AND NOTICES ST. ALBANS CITY SCHOOL  & OPERATION HAPPINESS Renaissance is starting the annual Operation Happiness food collection drive. We started collecting on November 18th and will keep on doing so until December 5th. Our school's goal is to collect 1,500 items. If we reach our goal, the whole school will get a popcorn party.
