50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION (PART 2)
On Thursday, February 20th, we celebrated 50 years of the school's existence. Aside from displaying lots of then and now pictures, and showcasing the unified arts talents of our students, the evening showcased how we feel we are doing as a school in relation to what the founders of the school wanted for the community's students. Listed below you will find pictures and videos from the evening.

FAMILIES CHECKED OUT PICTURES, OLD YEARBOOKS AND MORE
The contents of the new time capsule were on display as well as all the yearbooks the school has collected over the years. Ms. Wight had mounted all of the "then and now" pictures for people to see what the school was like 50 years ago and what it looks like now.  Student artwork speculating about the school's appearance 50 years from now was also on display. STUDENTS PERFORMED FOR THE AUDIENCE OF FAMILIES AND STAFF
Students showcased their drumming, chorus and dance skills. Audience members commented about how strong the performing arts program has become in recent years.

TIME CAPSULE OPENING VIDEO
In 1970 a time capsule was built into the wall near the entrance of the school. For many months now our students and staff speculated on the contents of that capsule. In October the capsule was removed and on February 20th, 2020 we opened it up in front of an audience. The 13-minute video is surprisingly entertaining and worth looking through.  LINK TO VIDEO

HOW ARE WE DOING NOW? VIDEO
This video was narrated by two 7th graders. Many staff members were interviewed about how their area of instruction and how they thought the school was doing about preparing students for high school and beyond. The video contains more than a hundred pictures of students working and learning at the school in recent years. 18 minutes.  LINK TO VIDEO

LAST YEAR'S VIDEO ABOUT HOW ST. ALBANS CITY SCHOOL CAME TO EXIST
This video is 31 minutes long. It explains how the community decided to shift from educating students in little neighborhood schools around St. Albans to teaching them at one site on Bellows Street. Senior community members, former students and teachers provided interesting insight about many facets of the school. LINK TO VIDEO

INCREDIBLES ECYBERMISSION PROJECT PRESENTATIONS
Like the 7th and 8th graders in Renaissance yesterday, the Incredibles students summarized their projects on trifold displays and verbally to visitors. Again there was impressive student work to be observed.  LINK TO 24 PICTURES

HARVEST OF THE MONTH - MAPLE SYRUP

Maple syrup is a staple in Vermont. Most Vermonters are familiar with the sugaring process, or even make their own syrup. It all started with the Abenaki, the indigenous tribe native to Vermont, who used to make maple sugar by placing hot stones into maple sap until the sap reached its boiling point. When it achieved the proper thickness, the syrup was then poured onto the snow to cool into a solid form. These days, the basic sugaring process has not changed, though collection and cooking implements have. Reverse osmosis machines, plastic tubing, and vacuum-pump collection have made sugaring a lot more efficient. In fact, this great little state produces the most maple syrup in the country - generating about 47% of the nation's total supply!
