Announcements 4-8-2020

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 8th

NEWS AND PICTURES
FROM FAMILIES AND STAFF MEMBERS

MAKING MASKS
These two students worked with their mom to make masks for people in the community. It is great to see so many people from St. Albans helping where they can.

GETTING OUTDOORS IN A SOCIALLY DISTANT WAY
This 8th grader is a member of Team Renaissance and he has been getting out of doors and hiking, socially distant naturally, on Lowell Mountain. In addition, he has been helping to construct a chicken coop from recycled materials practicing measuring twice to only cut once. He checked for squareness on his structures by implementing the 3-4-5 corner method to ensure 90-degree angles.

PINK MOON PICTURES AND INFORMATION
Ms. Mitchell took some cool pictures of the "Pink Moon" this April. LINK TO PICTURES
April’s Super ‘Pink’ Moon is the Brightest Full Moon of 2020. Despite the name, the pink moon won’t have a rosy hue. The name alludes to flowers that bloom in April. Reference and more details - Smithsonian Magazine

TUCKER THE TURTLE
PreK & Kindergarten teacher, Ms. Laidman (and daughter), made a puppet show to talk about Tucker the Turtle.  LINK TO VIDEO.  Here are a written-story and pictures to go with it. LINK TO STORY.  Geared toward younger students.

CONTENT WANTED
St. Albans City School families and staff members, if you have anything positive to share on the announcements that show what students and adults are doing to promote learning and a sense of community in this time of uncertainty, then please send it on to Mr. Craib at mcraib@maplerun.org. Please add a short descriptive note to go with your content. It would also be helpful if you wrote that you are providing consent to share your images, video clips, artwork, etc... Thank you.

SACS DIGITAL CITIZENS, ONLINE TIPS FOR FAMILIES (new messages)

MESSAGE 1.

Our Staff is working to create a SAFE online community for our students

As our staff have been exploring the best way to create a safe online community and team-check-in for all students, we wanted to let you know the steps we have taken to ensure safety when using ZOOM.

1) All of our meetings require a password (it is hidden in the link). The link to meetings is only shared to participants, never shared on a public website.
2) Teachers have to allow participants to enter the meeting.
3) The host is the only one allowed to share their screen.
4) Students may not chat privately with each other.

5) Students may not be in a meeting without the host present.

MESSAGE 2.
It is important when we are online to make sure that we are practicing the same great habits we have in real life--being safe, responsible and respectful. This family activity encourages us to think while we are using technology.
