Announcement - An Update on School Meals

Dear St. Albans City School Family,

Tonight we want to share information about school meals. We are excited to let our families know that our school is still a Community Feeding Site. As such, all students will receive breakfast, lunch and a fresh fruit or vegetable snack each day at no charge. For this to be a success, we still need all families to complete the free and reduced paperwork which will be included in your beginning of the year packet.  In our new COVID 19 reality, this meal service will be so helpful in keeping everyone safe. We encourage our families to take advantage of the service and let us have one less thing to disinfect when students enter the building.

Here is a short video explaining meals this year. Link

Breakfasts will work just as they did last year, only all breakfasts will be cold and served in the classrooms. Lunch will be delivered to individual classrooms between 11:40 and 12:20.  Students will have 3 options: a hot option, a cold option, or sunbutter and jelly. Students select their lunch choice at breakfast time. Blue Pod and Green Pod lunches will be the same each week. The same meals will be served Monday/Thursday and Tuesday/Friday. There will be no difference between pods.

When students leave at the end of their hybrid in-person session, they can take home 6 meals (3 breakfast and 3 lunch) to support the days they are remote. Tuesday and Friday a bag will be delivered to the classroom for each child to take home. Students can refuse to take home meals and we will honor that.

St. Albans City School students that are in the MRUSD Virtual Academy are also able to get meals. The meals that are sent home Tuesday and Friday are available for pickup from 8:00am-9:00am at the gym entrance on these days.

There can be no shared food and students cannot help themselves. Teachers must wear a glove and place the food on the student’s station with any supplies (fork, napkin, etc.) the students will need.

Masks do not have to be worn while eating, and students must remain at their station for the duration of the meal and place their mask on before getting up from their station.  Conversations should be limited when students are not wearing their masks. This summer students came up with the idea to cover their mouth with their mask when talking, then go back to eating. Flexibility here will be important.

We hope this information is helpful in planning for your family and helping to set expectations for children.  Tomorrow night we will share plans for some evening events prior to the start of school on September 8th.

We Are Raider Strong!
