MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL October 16, 2020 Dear St. Albans City School Families, Kindergarten students coming to school 4 days a week is off to a great start. The children are really happy to be here and our staff is thrilled to have them all together. We are continuing to keep children safe by diligently following all of our procedures. We have changed meals so that they are now bringing home meals on Thursday, for the Wednesday they are not in school and the weekend. Each Thursday they can take home a bag with 6 meals, which is the same that we give to each of the Hybrid students. This will continue with all students that we bring back for a 4 day week. We are currently preparing to bring back grades 1 and 2 for the 4 day week on October 29th. We will provide more information as that date gets closer. One of our goals this year is to help our families as they continue to support their children at home with many of the learning expectations, as we all try to remain safe through this COVID time. We are currently working on three family Zoom nights for this fall. October 22nd 6:30 - Setting Up for Technology Hardware Success: Remote learning means that students and families are working with school technology at home more than ever this year. With this new way of learning comes questions, and the SACs tech team wants to help! Come to this Interactive presentation to talk about: --Setting students up for great learning at home --Practical tips for debugging computer issues --Hardware Questions and Answers Please fill out the google form on the link below and you will receive a link to the Zoom 30 minutes before it begins https://forms.gle/ny1QLFXESgJFSutJ6 October 29th 6:30 - Mr. Ashton and Mrs. Levine will be holding a Zoom session to give an overview of how to read and understand the new I-Ready and Lexia reports that will explain your child's' ability levels in mathematics and literacy. Please fill out the google form on the link below and you will receive a link to the Zoom 30 minutes before it begins. https://forms.gle/GQXBYJcCG8B37rxi9 November 12th 6:30 - DIgital Safety Tips and Tricks: Increased access to technology and the internet provides amazing opportunities for students to learn and connect, and it also requires the school and families to work together to keep students' safe. In this practical session led by teachers (who are also parents!) we will share some great digital safety resources and strategies. Zoom Signup will be in future announcements. We hope these events will be helpful. If you cannot attend, the event will be recorded for you to watch when it is convenient for you. The family Zoom nights’ information will be posted on the Daily Announcements and our webpage. If there are other topics you are interested in, please let us know. The weather is getting colder. We need your help in having students dressed to be outdoors. We are safest when we are outdoors, so even with the colder weather, we want to keep using the outdoors to add variety to the day and take breaks from wearing a mask. We need our students to wear appropriate clothing for the changing weather. Thank you for helping us make the start to the school year safe and successful. While this is a very strange and often stressful time for everyone, we have had so many wonderful moments of joy, thanks to your children. Our School Community is Raider Strong! Joan and Stacie |
