NOTICE: The Maple Run Unified School Board seeks 3 parents, 3 students, 3 community members and 3 staff to participate on the School Resource Officer (SRO) Study Committee. This committee is charged with developing a well-supported, fact-based recommendation regarding the SRO position in the Maple Run Unified School District. The committee is expected to examine the SRO role in ways that may accommodate, as much as possible, the concerns of all parties with a goal of a consensus recommendation being the objective. The following questions will be answered by the Study Committee: • What do we want the roles/responsibilities or our SROs to be? • What roles/responsibilities are they performing now? • Are these roles/responsibilities being met as we would like them to be? • Who else could fulfill these and/or how else could these roles/responsibilities be met? • What is the recommendation as to how the role/responsibilities deemed necessary are fulfilled? Interested parties should download and complete the application found here: https://5il.co/msp3 and return it to Brenda Comstock bcomstock@maplerun.org no later than December 10, 2020. |
PICTURES VETERANS DAY Normally, Veterans Day occurs on a school day when the whole school community and school district can assemble in Taylor Park to honor our local and national military veterans. This year, Veterans Day fell on a Wednesday when our students are at home and when large gatherings are prohibited. Nevertheless, our school community cares deeply about this meaningful day, and many teachers have taken opportunities to find ways to honor the women and men who served or are serving our country. Below are a few samples of the ways that have happened. TEAM USA The Team USA blue group walked to Taylor Park on Tuesday afternoon 11-10-2020. The purpose of the trip was to discuss and honor our veterans. The team spoke about the monuments found in the park. The Green Group plans to walk to Taylor Park on Thursday for a similar experience (11-12-2020). Team USA would also like to share a Veterans Day video produced by staff and students at BFA. https://youtu.be/HopJkPGWXa4 Length 19:40 EXPLORERS 2nd and 3rd grade Explorers learned about Veteran’s Day. They made cards, that were then dropped off at the VFW. Thank you, Veterans! ADVENTURERS PREK Our blue group started exploring chrome books for the first time Tuesday morning (11-10-2020)! Kids practiced gentle touches to roll a virtual die and build a scarecrow! The kids had so much fun! The exercise combined fitness/exercise movements with drawing. If you want to try out the exercise and artwork yourself here is a video link to follow. 7 minutes long. The four pictures below are of the finished artwork after they completed the activity. COVERING CLASSROOM WINDOWS There are times where it is important to be able to block visual access to a classroom, such as during a lockdown procedure. These two staff members helped facilitate that ability on Wednesday (11-11-2020) by attaching decorated plastic sheeting over hallway windows. The exterior classroom windows were already protected with insulated blinds when needed. NEW CRATES ARRIVED To accommodate the increase in four-day-per-week students, an additional set of crates were purchased. They were distributed to the classrooms on Wednesday, 11-11-2020. The crates are used to store student belongings during the day - items that previously might have been placed in a cubby or locker. The crates are emptied at the end of the school day and are sanitized regularly. Wednesdays are good days to carry out necessary building maintenance. Photos of window replacement on the west side of the building. |

YEARBOOK COVER ART WANTED Hello 8th Graders and other artists. The yearbook committee is starting to put together the 2021 yearbook and we are asking for your help. If you have creative ideas and original artwork to share with us, then let us know right away. We want the blue and white school colors to be used for the artwork. The back cover should also use the school colors. There should be room on the front cover somewhere for a title and date, and on the back there should be room for a quote. We welcome inspiring quotes even if you don’t want to submit artwork. These are cover samples from recent yearbooks. Your submission may look completely different. Thank you for the help and if you have any questions, or are looking to submit cover art or a quote, then please contact Molly Clark at mlclark@maplerun.org or Mr. Craib at mcraib@maplerun.org |

HARVEST OF THE MONTH - Each month the Abbey group works to incorporate some locally harvested vegetables or fruit into our meals. This month sweet potatoes are the focus. SWEET POTATOES: Happy November! The trees have dropped their leaves, the temperatures are dropping, and the daylight is dwindling. What better time to nourish your body with this sweet and starchy root vegetable? Sweet Potatoes are rich in fiber and contain an array of vitamins and minerals such as iron, calcium, selenium, manganese and vitamins B, C, and E. They also contain an antioxidant called beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A once consumed. Though many recognize sweet potatoes for their bright orange insides, they can also be white, yellow, or purple depending on the variety. |
