MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Dear St. Albans City School Families,

We hope your families are doing well and you are adjusting to the newest COVID guidance. We continue to watch the guidance and modify as needed.

Next week we have school Monday and Tuesday, then we have no school Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving Break. To support families with food over the Thanksgiving Break, we are sending home a bulk package Monday for all families PreK-8 and Friday for Green Families in grades PreK and grades 5-8. This will be in addition to the meals normally sent home this week (Monday and Thursday). This bulk package includes a jar of peanut butter. For families with known peanut allergies, we will send home sunbutter.  For all others we will send home peanut butter. Our food packages are created by the Abbey, and they are usually nut free. It is only for these bulk shipments that they have asked if they could include peanut butter, since they are going home. We will be doing bulk packages for meals whenever we can get the products. In the new COVID reality, we can’t always get the products we order.

We have received many questions about how we can support students that must quarantine. There are many reasons why our students may need to quarantine this year. When students are required to quarantine they can still be marked present if they are keeping up with assignments in Google Classroom and SeeSaw and doing their i-Ready and Lexia work. For this to be set up, we ask that you contact the teacher and let them know that your child must quarantine, and that you will be helping them complete the work so that they can be counted as present and do not fall too far behind the rest of the class. During this difficult time, we want to do all that we can to support each other. We appreciate our families following the protocols, and we want to be as supportive as possible.

We wish our school family a safe and healthy Thanksgiving Holiday.

Our School Community is Raider Strong!

Joan and Stacie

STAFF COVID TESTING

The State aims to test most teachers and staff members monthly in an effort to enhance the safety of everyone in our school system. On Tuesday morning (11-17-2020) testing took place at St. Albans City School. The process went fairly smoothly.

RENAISSANCE - KELLY

These 8th graders learned about drumming in their Unified Arts class with Mr. Kelly. 11-16-2020. They figured out how to properly hold the drum between their legs and about the many different ways to strike the head of the drum with their hands. Drumming effectively is a more complicated than one might imagine. Monday, November 16th.  Link to 26 Pictures

STATE GUIDELINES ON OPEN BUS WINDOWS - EFFECTIVE 11-16-2020

As cold weather approaches, state guidelines for Covid bus safety are changing in order to keep our students safe and provide a level of comfort (Link to VT State Government Document).  Students will continue to wear masks, have temperature checks, use hand sanitizer when not using gloves/mittens, and have assigned seating. Regarding proper ventilation, p.16 to 18 of the guidance (Link)  includes that a MINIMUM of five windows/2 hatches (Driver, 2 front, 2 rear, 2 hatches) should be opened all the way during cold weather. During inclement weather a minimum of 10 windows/2 hatches or a total of 14 windows should be opened halfway to reduce rain/snow from entering the bus. As always, students should dress accordingly to stay safe, warm, and dry.  Thank you for understanding that we are following all recommendations to keep everyone safe.

VERMONT GUIDELINES ABOUT TRAVEL AND GATHERINGS OVER THE UPCOMING HOLIDAYS

The Vermont Department of Health has published a holiday tool kit document for residents. Website link to this toolkit. It contains maps with COVID-19 infection information about your destination or the location of your guests, ways to think about the risk of gatherings or travel to your family, how to travel as safely as possible, the need for flu shots for family members, and Vermont quarantine guidelines.  Link to PDF document with the same information.
