PICTURES

DREAMERS - BARKER

Writers’ workshop: Mr. Barker’s kindergarten students participated in a writers workshop time block in which they took their writing pieces (generally speaking, drawings they made), photographed them with their Chromebooks, and then recorded an audio segment explaining their work to go along with the images. 11-16-2020. Mr. Barker taught students to document their work for themselves, him and their fellow students. This is a useful in-person and remote learning skill since all SACS students need to be able to document their learning and share it in their portfolios.  Link to 26 Pictures

Students learned how to use the camera on their Chromebooks to photograph their work

Here is what one of the images looked like on-screen (with an audio explanation tagged to it).

Choice time: Next, Mr. Barker offered the students “choice time” with sanitized tubs of various items to play with. While the students were familiar with most of the choic time options, Ms. Rankin had supplied the classroom with two new options: a box of marble tracks and a box of foam and toothpick building supplies. These items were immediately popular and the first people chosen to play with them were randomly selected with an on-line digital roulette wheel. Once everyone was settled at their table or location with their box of supplies, the students worked independently in a focused manner. Link to 18 Pictures

INCREDIBLES - COUTTS

Reading aloud award-winning literature is a great way to inspire students to read and write. Ms. Coutts chose the book “Holes” for this purpose. It is a book perfect for the 4-6th grade age group to absorb and they did so with enthusiasm.  Link to 14 Pictures

INCREDIBLES - MUIR

Students worked quietly from a writing prompt supplied by Ms. Muir on Friday, November 13th when these photos were taken.

USA - KICKBALL WITH UA STAFF

Towards the end of Friday, 11-13-2020, the UA staff gathered the UA students on the baseball field for a brief game of kickball. PE teacher, Mr. Branon, supervised everyone, and the game progressed quickly. Link to 37 Pictures

STATE GUIDELINES ON OPEN BUS WINDOWS - EFFECTIVE 11-16-2020

As cold weather approaches, state guidelines for Covid bus safety are changing in order to keep our students safe and provide a level of comfort (Link to VT State Government Document).  Students will continue to wear masks, have temperature checks, use hand sanitizer when not using gloves/mittens, and have assigned seating. Regarding proper ventilation, p.16 to 18 of the guidance (Link)  includes that a MINIMUM of five windows/2 hatches (Driver, 2 front, 2 rear, 2 hatches) should be opened all the way during cold weather. During inclement weather a minimum of 10 windows/2 hatches or a total of 14 windows should be opened halfway to reduce rain/snow from entering the bus. As always, students should dress accordingly to stay safe, warm, and dry.  Thank you for understanding that we are following all recommendations to keep everyone safe.

VERMONT GUIDELINES ABOUT TRAVEL AND GATHERINGS OVER THE UPCOMING HOLIDAYS

The Vermont Department of Health has published a holiday tool kit document for residents. Website link to this toolkit. It contains maps with COVID-19 infection information about your destination or the location of your guests, ways to think about the risk of gatherings or travel to your family, how to travel as safely as possible, the need for flu shots for family members, and Vermont quarantine guidelines.  Link to PDF document with the same information.
