COMFY CLOTHING DAYS We are about to enter the long Holiday Break. As we lead up to these days, we want to have a little COVID-Safe School-Wide Celebration to end 2020. So we are doing School-Wide Comfy Day. For most of you, this will be Tuesday, December 22nd. For students that only attend on Green Days, it will be Friday, December 18th. So we will all be in clothes that make us feel comfortable (pajamas, sweats, plaid...) - and the School Logistics Team will be providing popcorn. While we can’t all be together, Mr. Craib will be around to take pictures so we can all see each other in the announcements. Some of these pictures are from a few years ago |
BOTTLE DRIVE TO HELP WITH HOMELESSNESS This year for my How I can Change the World project with Ms.K I decided to help with world homelessness. For this school project if we wanted to we are allowed to do a fundraiser. I thought because it was around the holidays I would help out. I came up with an idea for a bottle drive. With the bottles that are collected, I will go to my local bottle donation center. With that money, I will buy toothbrushes, hats, gloves, blankets, food, etc. to donate to the homeless. If you would like to help, you could donate bottles from around your house. I am planning to do the bottle drive on December 20. From 12 pm-2 pm. I will be in front of the school that day so you can just drive by and drop them off. If it is easier for you, at arrival or departure on Thursday or Friday you can drop bottles off in boxes we supply by the bus side and the flagpole/front entrance sides of the building. I would appreciate it if you could help out if you are able to. Thanks so much! ampeak@maplerun.org |

VOYAGERS MATH - CHISHOLM 4th Graders participated in an elegant lesson by Ms. Chisholm on base 10 place values that involved simple multiplication and division. Link to 18 Pictures. 12-15-2020 TRIUMPH "EXPLOSION SCIENCE" - DRAPER Continuing with the chemistry theme involving the baking soda and vinegar used in previous science activities, Ms. Draper had her 4th-grade students try out a tiny “explosion” project. Students were asked to place 6 spoonfuls of vinegar in a ziplock bag. They then floated a tiny cup with one spoonful of baking soda on the vinegar in that bag. After tightly zipping up the bag, they upended the cup in the bag which combined the vinegar and baking soda resulting in a chemical reaction. Their bags generally rapidly expanded until they popped. Safety glasses were used and everyone had a good time experimenting with different amounts of the ingredients. They had to process what they learned in writeups. This project has been conducted throughout most of the 4-6 classroom groups. Here are a few pictures of them working diligently on that task. Link to 17 Pictures. 12-15-2020. 3D PRINT TUTORIAL REPORT On Wednesday morning, 12-16-2020, Several dozen SACS students and staff members gathered on-line for a tutorial in 3D printing. A self-taught expert based in Israel, Simba, walked our students through the steps of generating computer drawings in Tinkercad that would ultimately lead to successful 3D printing productions. She inspired everyone with samples of her work before demonstrating how to make a plant holding object that resembled a cat. Her tutorial was easy to follow and it showed our students that amazing work is definitely within their ability to accomplish. Students then had a chance to try out Tinkercad on their own. City School staff members, Ms. Borst, Ms. Rankin, Ms. Bertucci and Mr. Mandeville all have experience using Tinker Cad and printing projects with students. Actual 3D printing at SACS is limited at present but will pick up again when it is safe to do so. EXAMPLES OF 3D ITEMS OTHER PEOPLE HAVE CREATED
