Announcements - Winter Break

 WINTER BREAK

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

December 22, 2020

Dear St. Albans City School Families,

We wish you and your family a peaceful and healthy holiday break. We hope that by now you have seen the message from Dr. Dirth about the calendar changes that will impact the return from break. We will be moving the Tuesday, January 19th inservice day to Monday, January 4th. We will then be remote on Tuesday, January 5th, and Wednesday, January 6th. We will be back to in-person learning on Thursday, January 7th for students in K-6 and Green prek and 7 & 8 students. Blue prek and 7&8 students will return to in-person learning on January 11, 2021.

We hope this remote time provides the support families need to quarantine and test if they do gather with close family over the holidays. We appreciate all of the sacrifices that our families and staff are making to keep our school community safe and our school open.

Students and/or parents will receive an email Monday, January 4th with details about the remote learning day on January 5th. January 6th will be a standard remote Wednesday. Students in grades 1-8 have their Chromebooks, and should be able to access everything they will need for remote learning. In kindergarten, the children are going home with packets today, and the teachers will contact each of them personally during the remote learning day.

We hope the literacy games we sent home provide an opportunity for a family game night over the break.  We would love to see pictures for the Announcements. Please send them to Mitch Craib (mcraib@maplerun.org).

As we end this year and look forward to 2021 we continue to appreciate our students, families, and staff and everything they have done to make the year as positive and safe as it could be.

Joan and Stacie

PICTURES AND NEWS

COMFY CLOTHING DAY 12-22-2020

As a way of building some team spirit and having fun before the holiday, almost the entire school dressed in pajamas or other forms of comfortable clothing. The school’s logistics staff prepared popcorn and shared it with all the learning communities. Between academic lessons, there were times for dance parties, movies, games, and outside exercise.  Many of the students and staff members who dressed up were photographed and their images shared within their communities. To give you a sense of the day, here are micro-images of classroom groups and people around the school on Tuesday.

CODING DANCE PARTY

The Makerspace staff orchestrated a half hour zoom dance party late Tuesday morning. 12-22-2020. It started with the code-created dance videos put together in a number of classrooms the previous week. Ms. Borst shared her computer screen which showed each classroom's video and showed her dancing to those videos. Students in each community could watch the dance videos from their classrooms and participate too. After the dance videos were shown, Ms. Borst played other music videos to keep the party going. Everyone had a great time.

MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER (SRO)

"Hello! Just a reminder to everyone that student drop-off in the morning begins at 7:40, and pick-up begins at 2:40 in the afternoon. If you are dropping off or picking up at the bus loop, please try to arrive as close to these times as possible. You may not enter the bus loop if there are any buses still in the loop.

In the interest of safety, mitigating traffic buildup, and city ordinances, if you arrive early please do not park along Calvary Street. Instead, please park along Finn Avenue, and wait until all of the buses have passed the Finn Avenue/Calvary Street intersection before re-entering Calvary Street. This prevents traffic from becoming backed up onto North Elm Street, makes it easier for buses to arrive and depart from the school, and creates a safer environment for walkers.

Your cooperation is appreciated! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

-Officer Kaylie Cadorette"
