USA MUSIC - KELLY

Covid restrictions have made teaching music a huge challenge. Blowing through instruments, singing, and congregating together in large groups is not allowed at this time. That means that our music teachers have to use classroom or hallway spaces, rather than music rooms, and work with instruments and tools that are safe to use.

Given these limitations, Mr. Kelly took the opportunity to introduce a cloud-based, audio creating platform called Soundtrap to his Mon/Tue 8th grade USA students (as well as other ⅞ students). This easy-to-use program allows students to make fresh music soundtracks by combining an abundance of sound clips and loops located within the program. Soundtrap also has the capacity to allow for music collaboration among students and with their teachers. The photos taken show them working on making music tracks in the hallway next to their classrooms. Link to 14 Pictures.

RENAISSANCE COOKING - LAMB

The Family and Consumer Science kitchen has been largely dormant this year as Mrs. Lamb has had to teach in middle-school classroom spaces instead. Food-related lessons have been largely theoretical.  Now that we have learned that students can manage handling food and eating meals safely in their classroom, Mrs. Lamb has begun to introduce some very basic cooking lessons into classroom environments. These pictures came from a lesson on making scrambled eggs using a microwave.

Students beat one or two eggs in individual mugs with forks. Small amounts of milk were added to the eggs and then toppings according to taste. Each student’s eggs were cooked by Mrs. Lamb in a microwave oven in three stages: 30 seconds (then retrieved and stirred), another 30 seconds (retrieved and stirred), and finally 20 seconds. The students then sat at their desks and ate their tasty eggs. 2-9-2021. Link to 37 Pictures

8TH GRADER BABY PICTURES WANTED

The yearbook committee would like 8th graders to submit baby pictures for the yearbook. It is best if you submit digital copies of your pictures to Mr. Craib at mcraib@maplerun.org. If you need to bring in the original image for scanning, you can give it to your teacher who will pass it on to Mr. Craib. The picture will be scanned as soon as it is received and immediately returned safely to the student.
