EXPLORERS 1ST GRADE LITERACY PROJECT - LEVINE, DEDIOS

It is always exciting when the pattern of classroom learning is changed up with a guest literacy teacher like Ms. Levine. She has already gotten to know many of the 1st graders in Explorers through small group work but on this occasion, she addressed the whole classroom through a multi-day literacy and art lesson focusing on acceptance and inclusion. Ms. Levine read a beautifully written and illustrated e-book located on her phone called “All are Welcome” by Alexandra Penfold  (Author), Suzanne Kaufman  (Illustrator). Ms. Levine had a cool way of connecting that phone to the overhead projector so that students could easily see the images from anywhere in the classroom, and she could zoom in on various pictures or written lines in the book. New words were learned along the way.  After finishing the book Ms. Levine and Ms. Dedios brought out paper, paint, and small mirrors to help students see themselves and create accurate self-images. Paints were supplied for each child to select and match their skin color in their portraits and colored paper was provided so that students could cut out and paste on “hair” that matched their own. This lesson in inclusion was inspired by Ms. Koski's similar instructive work. She is one of the PreK teachers here. It will take at least one more class session to finish the overall project. OPEN DOORS FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADERS

A new period of open doors began recently with 7th and 8th graders returning to school on their “remote learning” days for an hour of physical activity in the large gym. During this Open Doors session, floor hockey is the sport bringing students together for a calorie-burning workout and social time. Check out these 28 Pictures from Thursday morning, 3-25-2021.

INVESTIGATORS 2ND GRADE i-READY WORK - MUIR

This group of students was working silently and diligently on i-Ready this past Thursday morning, 3-26-2021. Link to 22 Pictures.

INVESTIGATORS 3RD GRADE WRITING CLASS - BOUDREAU

Students were engaged in a substantial writing task in Ms. Boudreau’s classroom when these 7 photos were taken. They were also pleased to show all of the good work they were doing in their writing packets. 3-25-2021

BREAKFAST IN THE CLASSROOM

Meals are the only indoor times that students can briefly remove their masks, and only if they remain quiet and separated from each other. As soon as students arrive they are offered breakfast in the classroom. Those that have completed eating their breakfast in the classroom, or who come to school already fed, can take part in an array of free time options until learning time begins. These pictures were taken in Mr. Muir’s Investigators classroom. 3-25-2021

8TH GRADE BABY PICTURES

This week is the last call for baby pictures of 8th-graders. It is not a requirement but something fun to see in the yearbook. About ⅓ of 8th-graders have submitted a picture. Send your digital image to Mr. Craib at mcraib@maplerun.org or bring the picture in to school. Turn it over to a teacher who will give it to Mr. Craib for scanning and immediate return.  Thank you.

OUTDOOR CO-ED VOLLEYBALL
