MAKERSPACE MARBLE RUN STEAM EVENTS- RANKIN, BORST, BERTUCCI

The Makerspace teachers have been sad that their instruction rooms have been off-limits to students this school year. To make up for that circumstance, they decided to offer the school’s younger students and their families an outdoor building and creative experience. They set up tables on the patio outside of the cafeteria and gave kids and their family members supplies to make marble runs on pegboards. Those who wished for a bigger palette to work on were offered a chance to build on large pegboards. Their building work took place for 45 minutes or so before they ate snacks and then resumed building. Everyone departed after an hour and a half.

TURKEY SPOTTED

A turkey was spotted on school grounds on Wednesday by Mr. Marrin. 5-26-2021

KINDERGARTEN CHICKS ARE HATCHING

The pictures below were shared by Dreamers teacher, Ms. Dupont. The first two pictures show eggs cracking as the chicks peck their way out. Four chicks had hatched by the time the next pictures were taken on Tuesday morning at 8:00 AM, 5-25-2021. It takes 21 days for fertilized chicken eggs to hatch. Duck eggs take up to a week longer before ducklings are ready to break out of their shells. Some classrooms are incubating both chicken and duck eggs. Ms. Dupont shared two very short time-lapse videos of chicks hatching. Check them out.

PRE-K AND KINDERGARTEN TRICYCLE PARADES

Tricycles have been used a lot for exercise and PE by our youngest students this year. Now that the end of the school year is nearing an end, the PreK and Kindergarten teams are celebrating by holding tricycle parade events for every PreK and Kindergarten classroom group.

Pictures from five different classroom groups are shown at this link (22 total).  Each group traveled the circumference of the school on Tuesday, May 25th, 2021. Six more groups will travel the same route on Thursday.  Thanks to all the students and teachers who cheered these young trike riders on as they made the long journey around the school

NAVIGATORS NO-SEW BUNNY DOLLS - LAIDMAN

Ms. Laidman shared a few pictures of her students’ creations. Link to 6 Pictures.

CARE PACKAGES TO SOLDIERS FROM ST. ALBANS CITY SCHOOL

There are currently over 1,000 Vermont Army and Air Guard soldiers deployed around the world, performing various missions from Africa to Europe.  Please help us in showing them support by giving a little hello from home by adding some items for care packages we will be sending in the next couple of weeks.  Bins are located at the front of the school and will be collected by Team USA daily.  Below are some of the items that soldiers have mentioned would be greatly appreciated:

  • Snacks (Granola, Beef Jerky, Trail Mix)

  • Baby Wipes

  • Foot Powder

  • Propel and Other Powdered Drink Mix

  • Toothbrushes, Toothpaste

  • Lip Balm & Chapstick

  • Candy (M&M’s, Skittles, Etc.)

  • Sunscreen

  • Hot Sauces

  • Crossword Puzzles & Word Games

  • Coloring Books and Crayons (Yes, you read that right)

  • Books

Sometimes, a kind word of support and appreciation, a poem, or even a sketch or drawing mean just as much to a soldier far from home.  We will also be collecting letters -- both to service members or their families – to show support and let them know we are thinking about them in these trying times.

For the younger kids – soldiers love pictures and drawings – so please take a couple minutes to brighten the day for someone who is far from home.

This will be an ongoing project so please keep the items and letters coming early and often.  Any questions can be sent to Team USA

Thank You
