CHICKENS AND GARDENING - ROULEAU & PIZARRO

Here are some pictures of the students eating breakfast before their day of gardening, caring for chickens, and playing.  Link to 21 Pictures. 7-22-2021. This camper is feeding one of the chickens some of the unripe blueberries culled from the garden.

BAY PARK CAMP - SALIT, CIOFFI, BRANON, LAWLOR

After consuming breakfast, some of the campers hopped on their bikes for a ride down to the bay park. Later in the day, they returned on their bikes.  Check out these 6 Pictures of their rides. Once they fished and played volleyball. 7-22-2021

SOCCER CAMP - BOLIO, FITZGERALD, BOUCHARD, STEINHOUR, STOWE, TAYLOR

These campers are improving their understanding of soccer. They were photographed in a scrimmage towards the end of their camp day on Thursday, July 22nd. It was a high-energy game. Link to 9 Pictures

TRIUMPH ADVENTURE CAMP - MARRIN, BROOMHALL

Last week these campers made two foods, butter, and bread, the old-fashioned way.

They took heavy cream and beat it with a hand-powered mixer. After some effort and time, the fat separated from the liquid, forming butter and buttermilk. The buttermilk was poured off and the butter was added to cold water. It was removed from the water, kneaded and squeezed into shape, salted, and then tasted. Delicious.

They also made sourdough bread. Mr. Marrin brought in some starter dough that was added to a bowl of flour, salt, and water. Everything was mixed together and after a day of proofing, the dough was placed in a very hot metal dish with a lid and baked for 30 minutes. Again, the end result was very tasty -especially with the butter!

AGENCY OF EDUCATION AND PBS STEAM KITS

Last week, some of the younger campers who are involved in STEAM activities received bags of supplies to take home from the Vermont Agency of Education and PBS. The kits contain books and items like a kit for learning about bugs.

CONVOCATION CAMP - PALMER

Thursday was the last day for the convocation camp to finish creating their performance for the Maple Run Unified School District staff at convocation in August. They had spent three intense days refining their dialogue and songs. Ms. Palmer was pleased with how everything came together so quickly and effectively. She attributed the success of the efficient process to the creative work of several former St. Albans City School students prior to the camp. Ms. Palmer noted that many of the campers have been involved in the convocation performance camps for years now and know what to do. They will meet again the day before convocation for last-minute preparation.

DANCE CAMP - HARTMAN, JARVIS, DEMAG

On Wednesday, July 21st, Ms. Jessica Frost from RiseVT came and taught the campers some yoga poses. She made games out of selecting and trying various poses out. Not surprisingly, many of the campers were natural yoga athletes.

Here is a video clip of the dance campers learning to jump rope from Ms. Jarvis. 14 seconds long.

Here is a video clip of campers doing hula-hooping, jumping rope in a different way, and kicking a ball. 45 seconds long.

NAVIGATORS CAMP - LAIDMAN, SCOTT

This group has made the wetlands and nature their focus. They shared some pictures of a trip they took to the wetlands ponds. They wore rubber boots and used nets to sift through samples of water to find some of the creatures and plants living there.  Link to 7 Pictures.

REPEATED FROM LAST FRIDAY

TRIUMPH ADVENTURE CAMP - MARRIN & BROOMHALL

Mid-morning Thursday, July 22nd, this group went out to make giant bubbles. Mr. Marrinfound found an excellent bubble recipe for maximum bubble size. The group split up into three groups and took turns dipping their bubble twine and sticks into tubs of liquids. Check out their impressive bubble-making results. Link to 31 Pictures.
