VOYAGERS 5TH GRADE SCIENCE - BASHAW
On Friday, 9-10-2021, students conducted an experiment to find out if bird beak designs have an effect on their ability to pick up a variety of food types. Bird beaks were simulated using chopsticks, toothpicks, spoons or tongs. “Bird food” consisted of rubber bands, marbles, small odd-shaped beads and cheerios. Each student had 10 seconds to pick up individual elements of food and place it into their stomach (a cup). To explain more clearly, each student had 10 seconds to use two toothpicks to pick up cheerios, another 10 seconds to try the same toothpicks on marbles, another 10 seconds to pick up rubber bands and then a final 10 seconds to pick up beads. The amount of items picked up with each beak system was recorded on a data sheet. Their individual and classroom data will be analyzed in later classes to come to conclusions about beak design effectiveness. Link to 29 Pictures.

VOYAGERS 5TH GRADE ART - MONTGOMERY

The students shaped colored paper into different forms and then pasted them onto a background sheet of paper.  Link to 27 Pictures.

INCREDIBLES 6TH GRADE SCIENCE - MANGIS

Like the Voyagers 5th grade above, Ms. Mangis’ 6th graders conducted a similar bird beak and food experiment. Link to 14 Pictures.
