INVESTIGATORS READING/WRITING & THEIR FIRE DRILL

Ms. Taney was deep into a lesson on reading and writing letters of the alphabet when diverted temporarily by a fire drill. The reading and writing lesson had students recognizing upper and lower case letters, knowing their sounds, and having them stand up and air-write the letters on an imaginary page. The image from the projector helped guide the students’ writing and the guidance provided by the teacher. The fire drill required everyone to stop what they were doing and cover procedures for what to do in the event of a fire. A short video helped clarify expectations. There was plenty of time for children to ask for information about fire drills and how they are to be kept safe when they occur.
