HOPE (Hands on Practical Education) MAKING SALSA - DESLAURIERS & HOBEN After gathering locally grown ingredients, Mr. Deslauriers and Mr. Hoben taught five students how to make a tasty salsa from scratch. Fresh tomatoes were dipped briefly in hot water to make their skin removal easier. Then peppers, onions and garlic were chopped. These ingredients were added to a large pot along with salt and various spices. After cooking on the school’s cooking cart, the whole mix was blended together and placed in jars. The students enjoyed tasting the product of their labor. They also enjoyed gaining a range of basic cooking skills.
