 ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8th

LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

COVID Update

September 7, 2021

Dear St. Albans City School Families,

This weekend we received information indicating that a member of our school community has tested positive for COVID 19. As part of our Health and Safety measures, we are having all unvaccinated students who may have been in close contact with this individual remain home until all quarantining requirements have been met.

We have communicated with the affected students/staff via email or phone about their quarantine requirements. If you have not been contacted you or your children are not a close contact and you do not need to quarantine at this time.

We encourage all staff, students, and families to follow all the necessary COVID guidelines (wearing masks, staying home when sick, physical distancing, and handwashing) and communicate with one of our nurses if you or your children might have symptoms or have tested positive with COVID-19.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and support.

Joan and Stacie

RENAISSANCE SCIENCE SKILLS REFRESHER - LOUCY

During a full class period, students rotated between at least 20 scientific measurement, calculation and questioning tasks. They had learned science skills from Ms. Loucy in 7th grade and were just getting a quick reminder of how to do things before launching in various investigations in later classes. Aside from refreshing skills, a benefit of Tuesday’s class was that students had to constantly stand up and move around the classroom. The combination of mental and physical activities enhanced learning.  Link to 24 Pictures.

RENAISSANCE 7th GRADE - TOWNSEND

Ms. Townsend has been discussing structural characteristics of successful storytelling (books). To help students absorb the lessons, she passed out some young children’s literature to get students, individually or in groups, analyzing the layout and methods of the writers. Link to 11 Pictures.

CUP STACKING IN MS. MARCUS’ CLASSROOM

Ms. Marcus challenged her students to create plastic cup stacks with a limited number of cups. Each student was timed and encouraged to build as tall and as as rapidly as possible. They enjoyed the task and the process of supporting each other while building.

VOYAGERS WETLANDS WALK

Ms. Bashaw shared a few photos of a recent walk through the wetlands. The Voyagers are stewards of the wetlands and do their best to keep trails open as well as make new trails so that everyone can appreciate the nature right in our backyard.  Link to 6 Pictures.

FROG NOTICED ON SCHOOL MILKWEED

Ms. Brogle’s Dreamers team saw this little green frog on a milkweed leaf in front of the school Tuesday morning, 9-7-2021.

FIELD MAINTENANCE

Mr. Pelkey is shown marking the freshly mowed soccer fields on Tuesday, 9-7-2021. As is usual for him now, he mows outside of school and athletic hours. Mr. Pelkey does so because rocks tossed into the grass from the areas next to our sidewalks can become missiles when the mower encounters them. Weekends are safer for mowing. We can help Mr. Pelkey, and our school mower, by keeping the fields clear of rocks.
