PICTURES ADVENTURERS - FARRELL A yearly SACS Kindergarten learning activity is to have children construct Mat Man -usually with a commercial kit. The mat man activity helps develop readiness, placement, and sequencing skills. Mastering these abilities and concepts early help children build a foundation for mastering writing skills. Additionally, building mat man promotes body awareness and social and sharing skills. Lately, our teachers have put aside the kit and come up with their own mat man building components. It is safer because students can work at their own desks and don’t share the learning equipment. The components are kept separate and are edible which adds to the enjoyment of making mat man. Once the activity is done, students get to eat what they want of their mat man. Ms. Farrell had students first draw out mat man on a white board. They followed up this task by making mat man out of crackers, pretzels and a few chocolate chips. Check out the pictures taken Wednesday morning, September 8th. Included in the album are some pictures of the class doing a mindfulness and calming activity prior to their construction work. NAVIGATORS PREK/K - EMMONS Here are the pictures that Ms. Rie took during our release of three beautiful monarch butterflies that we have been watching grow in our classroom. The children have been amazing safe keepers of the chrysalises. We learned all about the life cycle and the different parts of the butterfly as well. In the end, we released them and wished them well on their long journey to Mexico to hang in the "butterfly trees." Link to 16 Pictures.
