Dear St. Albans City School Families,

MOCK TRIALS IN 7TH & 8TH GRADES - TOWNSEND, VAUGHN

The 7th and 8th-grade students on Team USA and Team Renaissance read the short story "The Monkey's Paw" by W.W. Jacobs. This horror story warns readers to "Be careful what you wish for..." The characters in this story come across a monkey's paw which has the ability to grant three wishes but at a terrible cost. In class, students take part in a mock trial to put Mr. White on trial for the death of his son after the family makes their first wish. Students worked in teams to play the jury, prosecution, or defense.

On Thursday, 10-21-2021, the groups listened to the prosecution and defense speakers. The lawyers for both sides of the case are now tasked with generating rebuttal statements before the next class when a decision about innocence or guilt is made. The linked pictures are from an 8th-grade group from Team Renaissance. They took the project very seriously and spoke quite eloquently. Link to 25 Pictures.

WEDNESDAY KINDERGARTEN P.E. WITH MS. WIGHT

This week Ms. Wight has been introducing the kindergarteners to a fun and vigorous game using light-weight “alligator-skin” foam balls. On one side of the room, she created an open-topped room with upright floor mats. Two to three students stayed in the space behind the mats to throw out balls while students in the main gym space gathered up two balls at a time to toss into the enclosed space. The students in and out of the enclosed space had to move as quickly as possible leading to kids getting lots of exercise over the class session. New groups of kids rotated into the enclosed space to toss out balls. The ones on the outside could only toss balls into the space if they stood on X marks taped to the gym floor. 10-20-2021. NAVIGATORS KINDERGARTEN STEAM CLASS - RANKIN, LAWYER

Ms. Darcy Rankin had Ms. Lawyer’s students build small kites. They ran with the kites in their yard area to make them go airborne. Creating the kites and flying them was fun. 10-15-2021. Link to 10 Pictures.

ADVENTURERS ON TRICYCLES - BORCH

Ms. Borch gathered her kindergarten students together on Wednesday, 10-20-2021, and took them outside to ride tricycles. The weather was beautiful. Consequently, they had a blast. Link to 8 Pictures.
