PICTURES & NEWS VOYAGERS 5th GRADE - PLANT AND ANIMAL ADAPTATIONS We have spent the fall looking at how plants, animals, and of course people adapt to their environments. For the culminating project, students created their own creatures, created a report that talked about the physical and behavioral adaptations they had and made a model. The projects were spectacular!!! Link to 14 Pictures of some student projects. PICTURE RETAKE DAY Monday, November 22nd was school picture retake day. Students and staff who were missed during previous picture days were photographed. While picture days are used primarily to generate photos for families, they also get used for important documents like the school yearbook (for 8th-grade pictures only since the yearbook is for graduation 8th graders). Thank you to everyone for participating. SIZING BOOTS In normal school years students from 4th, 5th and 6th grades join trips to Jay Peak to downhill ski. The hope is that skiing will be possible this school year when last year it was not. In preparation for that possibility, students were sized for ski boots here at St. Albans City School by representatives of Jay Peak on November 17th. With sizing done prior to ski days, when students arrive at Jay Peak they can quickly pick up equipment and hit the ski slopes. The goal of taking students skiing is to give them 5-6 skiing experiences before they leave school. In that many visits, students can get good enough to use the chairlifts and ski slopes of varying difficulty. They can then decide if they want to make skiing a sport they will pursue independently and more seriously as they mature. |
Operation Happiness Organized by students on Team Renaissance This year, as is traditional at this time of year, our school is participating in Operation Happiness. Operation Happiness is a food drive that our school has been a part of since 2013. The food collected by Operation Happiness is donated to people in need of our food, and it really helps them. Our school is trying to raise 1,000 food items over our drive. The following items are what we need:
We ask that you donate food between November 29th to December 9th. If you bring food in, then give it to your teachers and the 8th-grade members of team Renaissance will collect it in the mornings! If we meet our goal of 1,000 donations we will have a schoolwide popcorn party! |
