WALKING WEDNESDAY IS TOMORROW

There is only one Walking Wednesday this month - December 1st. Don’t miss out. Come join one of the seven walking school buses walking to school.

Operation Happiness

Organized by students on Team Renaissance

This year, as is traditional at this time of year, our school is participating in Operation Happiness. Operation Happiness is a food drive that our school has been a part of since 2013. The food collected by Operation Happiness is donated to people in need of our food, and it really helps them.

Our school is trying to raise 1,000 food items over our drive. The following items are what we need:

  • Dry pasta

  • Canned goods (vegetables, fruit, soups, canned meats, tuna, chicken etc)

  • Peanut butter

  • Jelly

  • Jars of sauce

  • Cereal

  • Baking mix (cornbread, brownies cake, quick bread)

  • Ramen Noodles

  • Baby Food

  • Boxed Meals (macaroni and cheese, hamburger helper, scalloped potatoes, stuffing, rice)

We ask that you donate food between November 29th to December 9th. If you bring food in, then give it to your teachers and the 8th-grade members of team Renaissance will collect it in the mornings! If we meet our goal of 1,000 donations we will have a schoolwide popcorn party!

COLLECTION UPDATE FROM MONDAY, NOVEMBER 29TH

Keep up the good work! We’re doing great for the first day of food gathering! So far we have 191 out of 1,000, that’s almost 20% (or ⅕ of our goal)! Only 809 food items to go!

SNOW TUBES

Until a schedule is developed, snow tubes will be available on the sledding hill on a first come first serve basis. Understand that is very likely that your team will not find access to the tubes. Also, if the snow gets too thin, the tubes will be put away. If two learning communities are out during the same recess time and you get to the tubes first, please use only 10 of the tubes on one side of the hill for your team and leave 10 tubes for the other team on the other side of the hill to use.

RULES

  • Classes/communities will need to keep separate from each other and use separate sides of the sledding hill.

  • One rider per tube.

  • Once we get straw bales for a barrier on each side of the hill, students will need to walk uphill behind the bales and out of the way of the sledders. For now, walk up the sides of the hill, not in the middle of the sledders.

  • Masks should be worn for this activity since students tend to get close to each other.

  • Tubes cannot be dragged across the cement or rocks. The cement and rocks scratch the bottoms and they no longer slide well.

  • Tubes need to be brought to the top of the hill and left on the snow at the completion of your time on the hill.
