PICTURES DETECTIVE BOTLEY BLOCKLY’S REMY THE RAT MYSTERY On Wednesday (12-15-2021), quite a few learning communities tried to solve the coding mystery involving Detective Botley Blockly and Remy the Rat created by the makerspace staff and their assistants. First, students watched some introductory story videos. Then, they navigated a special google doc clue map using coding instructions found in one of the short introductory videos. Most blocks on the map included either a video or an audible instruction to the students explaining their success at finding clues to the mystery. The approximately half-hour challenge seemed to be very interesting to a range of age groups around the school. Travelers 2nd Grade (Ms. Culligan’s classroom): Link to 15 Pictures. They used construction scissors, paper, tape, pens, and yarn to fashion their art pieces. Link to 21 Pictures. DREAMERS - DEDELL The PreK students in Ms. DeDell’s classroom had a blast playing with the large Omnikin balls on Tuesday, December 14th. Link to 5 Pictures shared by Ms. DeDell. DREAMERS TWINS

Want to submit a dance for the party? Here is how: Complete the Code.org Dance Party activity and then share your dance creation with us. Share your creations by copying the link and emailing it to makerspace@maplerun.org on or before Monday, December 20th. Students who submit a dance for the party will receive a special prize from the makerspace team. One lucky class (picked randomly through a lottery) that submits a coded dance entry will get to dance with DJ Borst, RankinBot3000, and other famous SACs characters in person! Here is an example of the kind of dances you can create: Click on this link.
Have fun coding, and we look forward to seeing you at the dance party! ---------------------------------------------------------- Are you working on the coding mystery for the 2021 month of code? Find all of the clues and things you need in one spot here: Click on this link |
MONTH OF CODE BOOKS | |
Do you know the difference between a fact and an opinion? It can be a hard thing to understand. Some things are facts--like the number of robots in this book. Other things are opinions--like which robot would make the best friend, or which robot dances best. And sometimes to tell the difference between a fact and an opinion, you need to wait to get more information--that's because facts can be proven true or false, and opinions are things you feel and believe--but that you can't prove. | |
In Ruby’s world, anything is possible if you put your mind to it--even fixing her father’s broken computer! Join Ruby and her new friend, Mouse, on an imaginative journey through the insides of a computer in search of the missing Cursor. From bits and logic gates to computer hardware, Ruby (and her readers!) will learn the basic elements of the machines that power our world. Then future kid coders can put their knowledge and imaginations to work with fun activities. |
