WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA

Cadets from Team USA came to the Calvary Cemetery on Friday morning to Support the Wreaths Across America ceremony to honor veterans. They were dressed in military uniforms and stood at attention holding various ceremonial flags. Short speeches were given, plaques were presented, the honor guard shot their rifles in unison, and one of our students played Taps on his trumpet. This gathering was followed by the cadets, veterans personnel and spectators winding their way around the graveyard laying wreaths. Everyone expressed their gratitude to the veterans buried throughout our neighboring cemetery. Thanks especially to the USA students and staff members for their contribution to this day. 12-17-2021.  Link to 51 Pictures.

FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADE BOYS BASKETBALL

Parent and substitute teacher, Mr. Davis, submitted these basketball pictures. Families, if you have pictures of your athlete’s team, then we hope you will consider sharing them with the school community. Send them to Mr. Craib at mcraib@maplerun.org

Want to submit a dance for the party?  Here is how:

Complete the Code.org Dance Party activity and then share your dance creation with us.  Share your creations by copying the link and emailing it to makerspace@maplerun.org on or before Monday, December 20th. Students who submit a dance for the party will receive a special prize from the makerspace team. One lucky class (picked randomly through a lottery) that submits a coded dance entry will get to dance with DJ Borst, RankinBot3000, and other famous SACs characters in person!

Here is an example of the kind of dances you can create: Click on this link.

Have fun coding, and we look forward to seeing you at the dance party!

MONTH OF CODE BOOKS

It's never too early to learn computer coding! With innovative, interactive paper engineering, My First Coding Book is a playful, hands-on introduction to offline coding and programming that will give children ages 5 to 7 a head start. Filled with puzzles, mazes, and games to teach the basic concepts of sequences, algorithms, and debugging, this book will help children develop critical thinking, logic, and other skills to cement lifelong computer literacy.

Three aliens set off to find a new planet for themselves but soon Bork and Gork have forgotten all of their mother's good advice and only Nklxwcyz builds a home safe enough to withstand the Big Bad Robot in this story reminiscent of "The Three Little Pigs."

After machines take control of Earth, following the extinction of humans, twelve-year-old robot XR 935A confronts its prejudices about humans and begins to reconsider its own existence within robot society after discovering and befriending a twelve-year-old human girl.

Ruby is a small girl with a huge imagination, and the determination to solve any puzzle. As Ruby stomps around her world making new friends, including the Wise Snow Leopard, the Friendly Foxes, and the Messy Robots, kids will be introduced to the fundamentals of computational thinking, like how to break big problems into small ones, create step-by-step plans, look for patterns and think outside the box through storytelling. Then, these basic concepts at the core of coding and programming will be reinforced through fun playful exercises and activities that encourage exploration and creativity. In Ruby's world, anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
