  • Kids often slide off the hills towards busy bus and car traffic -unsafe

  • The hills ice up over time and can be dangerous to slide on

DREAMERS BIRD FEEDERS - DUPONT

Ms. Dupont had her students make bird treats with leftover snack bagels, seeds and sunbutter. These were hung outside the classroom on nearby trees for birds to feed on. Link to 14 Pictures.

DREAMERS SNOW FLAKE PROJECT - DUPONT

Student made beautiful snowflake craft projects with cutouts, tissue paper and contact paper. These worked like stained glass windows when placed in a window with sunshine pouring through them. Link to 6 Pictures.

APPLE PIE WITH VOYAGERS

Ms. Cavallo and students from Voyagers assembled three apple pies and an apple crumble. They cut up apples leftover from snacks and added cinnamon, flour, butter, and sugar to them. These were placed in pie dishes lined with crust or simply into a pan. Baking took more than an hour and a half at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. The students got a chance to taste their work in the early afternoon before school was dismissed. Delicious. It was a joy to have the school teaching kitchen in full swing again. Want a way for your student to learn during screen time?

Help them get on LEXIA!

Lexia is a computer based program that all students use at St. Albans City School. This program supports their learning in many areas of reading.

How to access Lexia from home:

  1. Go to our school website https://www.maplerun.org/o/sacs

  2. Click on the MORE dropdown menu

  3. Click on ENRICHMENT

  4. Click on Lexia Core5 (grades K-4) or Lexia PowerUp (grades 5-8)

  5. Enter your student’s username and password (sent home with student)

OR

  1. Go to www.lexiacore5.com (grades K-4)

Or www.lexiapowerup.com (grades 5-8)

  1. You may need to enter your student’s teacher’s email address.

  2. Enter your student’s username and password (sent home with student)

Tips for engagement:

  • Check in to see how many units they’ve earned.

  • Sit with them so they can show you what they are learning.

  • Compromise; if they spend 15 minutes on Lexia, then they can earn time on an app or site of their choice.

  • Tell them when they come back to school, their teachers will see how much time they’ve spent learning!

  • Remind them that they’re working toward leveling up!

If you have any questions, please email Angie Fitzgerald (Literacy Interventionist Leader) at afitzgerald@maplerun.org
