TEMPORARY WATER SHUTOFF AT ST. ALBANS CITY SCHOOL Dear St. Albans City School Families, Today (1-13-2022) around 10:00 we got a call from the City that we would lose our water in 30 minutes because of a water main break on Finn Ave. So we went into action quickly, all students and staff stopped what they were doing and used the bathroom before the water went off. They anticipated that the water would be off for two hours. We also found a supply of hand sanitizing wipes that we purchased for COVID, and got those to each classroom. We then proceeded with our day as usual. Around 11:30 we found that they put the water back on and tried to do the fix while we had water - a nice surprise. We are very proud of our school community and how well they all handled this big zig-zag in our day. Thank you to our Raider Strong Community, Joan and Stacie ------------------------------ From Your School Nurses: Please help us stay open. To date we have had several members of our school community come to school while they waited for the results of a PCR test. Please realize that if you took a PCR test, you must remain at home until you have the results. In the two days that it takes to get the results, many others can be exposed. If we all take these precautions, we can keep our school open. |

PICTURES & NEWS INVESTIGATORS LITERACY - BOUDREAU/FICKEN Ms. Ficken, a long-time teacher in the Investigators community (now retired and working as a substitute), led the 3rd graders through a lesson in understanding book components. Students got to pick out a book of interest to them. Then, they had to search for elements such as headings, glossaries, graphs, titles etc. Students took turns going to the front of the classroom to show what they had found in their choice of book. CHEERLEADING TEAM PICTURES OVER THE YEARS As mentioned with the basketball team pictures posted on Thursday, the pictures here are not a complete history of participants in the last 20 years. All photos shown are from 2003 onwards and there are missing years. Most of these photos were retrieved from a photo album recently found. Link to 20 Pictures. BOOKS TO CONSIDER READING FROM OUR LIBRARY Have you set a goal for yourself in the new year? January is a great time to make a resolution and this month we will be highlighting books in our library that focus on goal setting and growth. Everyone knows that when Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. But what happened after? Caldecott Medalist Dan Santat's poignant tale follows Humpty Dumpty, an avid bird watcher whose favorite place to be is high up on the city wall―that is, until after his famous fall. Now terrified of heights, Humpty can longer do many of the things he loves most. Will he summon the courage to face his fear? Rosie Revere dreamed of becoming a great engineer. Where some people see rubbish, Rosie sees inspiration. Alone in her room at night, shy Rosie constructs great inventions from odds and ends. Hot dog dispensers, helium pants, python-repelling cheese hats: Rosie’s gizmos would astound—if she ever let anyone see them. Afraid of failure, she hides them away under her bed. Until a fateful visit from her great-great-aunt Rose (AKA Rosie the Riveter!), who shows her that the first flop isn’t something to fear—it’s something to celebrate. And you can only truly fail, if you quit. Michael Jordan. The mere mention of the name conjures up visions of basketball played at its absolute best. But as a child, Michael almost gave up on his hoop dreams, all because he feared he’d never grow tall enough to play the game that would one day make him famous. That’s when his mother and father stepped in and shared the invaluable lesson of what really goes into the making of a champion—patience, determination, and hard work. |
