DISCOVERY OLYMPICS

The Discovery STEAM Olympics concluded with closing ceremonies on Friday, March 4. Medals were awarded for both the Curling and Hockey events, the National Anthem was played, and all teams were recognized for their hard work and dedication. A special recognition was also made for the most outstanding hockey net design. Throughout the Olympic events, students had extra learning opportunities related to physical science, engineering, and design. When asked about the best part of the Discovery Olympics, students recognized teamwork and fun with friends as their favorite aspects.

TROUT UPDATE FROM TEAM USA - ROULEAU

Trout update: the trout are doing well in their second week out of the safety net. You can notice in the video that the fish are facing in opposite directions in the tank. That is because the bubbler produces flows in opposite directions on either side. Brook trout are adapted to swimming or facing upstream of the flow. We are daylighting the tank a few hours a day now trying to imitate what would be going on in their natural habitat as the snow melts and the streams are uncovered with snow and ice.

EXPLORERS 1st and 2nd GRADE TRIP TO ECHO

A few more pictures from this fabulous field trip.  Students had the opportunity to explore a dinosaur exhibit just like you would find a natural history museum, learn why poisonous dart frogs are not poisonous at ECHO and learn about how pulleys can help you lift heavy objects.

Discover American history through the lives of 50 inspiring women

Women have always been at the forefront of American history―and it’s time to hear their astounding stories! This look into American history for kids is bursting with engaging biographies that explore the lives of these influential women from different backgrounds and a wide array of fields.

Discover the amazing women who helped shape America with this exploration through American history for kids.

Equal parts picture book biography, inspiring story, and a look at racial diversity in America, It Began with a Page is a gem for any book lover, librarian, or child who dares to dream big.

Growing up in California, Gyo Fujikawa always knew that she wanted to be an artist. She was raised among strong women, including her mother and teachers, who encouraged her to fight for what she believed in. During World War II, Gyo’s family was forced to abandon everything and was taken to an internment camp in Arkansas.

An important book for all ages, Little Leaders educates and inspires as it relates true stories of forty trailblazing black women in American history. Illuminating text paired with irresistible illustrations bring to life both iconic and lesser-known female figures of Black history such as abolitionist Sojourner Truth, pilot Bessie Coleman, chemist Alice Ball, politician Shirley Chisholm, mathematician Katherine Johnson, poet Maya Angelou, and filmmaker Julie Dash.
