HATCHING CHICKS

Between May 16th and 31st, chicks and ducklings will be hatching in all the kindergarten classrooms. Seven chicks had already hatched in Ms. Lawyer’s and Ms. Dupont’s rooms by 9:00 AM Monday, May 16th. Ms. Dupont did a time lapse recording of one chick making it out of its’ shell. Link to 12-second long video.

The students are very excited about the hatching process.

7TH GRADE RENAISSANCE P.E. -  INDOOR SOFTBALL - JARVIS & BRANON

Renaissance students enjoyed some friendly competition among their peers on Monday, May 16th. Link to 28 Pictures.

TRIUMPH PASSION PROJECT COMBINED WITH MAKERSPACE LEARNING

Two 6th Grade students from Team Triumph have combined their interest in preventing the extinction of African Forest Elephants with their desire to learn some fundamental makerspace creation skills. During their three-month-long project, they learned how to design, print and laser cut 3-D print key chain fobs and stickers. They also composed a concise written rationale to be attached to the items they make when they try to raise funds from family members and adults they know to sponsor the care of a baby elephant.

BOOKS TO INVESTIGATE IN THE LIBRARY

Getting to feel at home in a new country

Yoon's name means "shining wisdom," and when she writes it in Korean, it looks happy, like dancing figures. But her father tells her that she must learn to write it in English. In English, all the lines and circles stand alone, which is just how Yoon feels in the United States. Yoon isn't sure that she wants to be YOON. At her new school, she tries out different names―maybe CAT or BIRD. Maybe CUPCAKE!

A khimar is a flowing scarf that my mommy wears.

Before she walks out the door each day, she wraps one around her head.

A young girl plays dress up with her mother’s headscarves, feeling her mother’s love with every one she tries on. Charming and vibrant illustrations showcase the beauty of the diverse and welcoming community in this portrait of a young Muslim American girl’s life.
