PICTURES TEAM USA. REPORT ON GREEN STORMWATER INFRASTRUCTURE AND PRACTICES Finally, after two years of restrictions, students on Team USA were able to hold an in-school informational meeting with the St. Albans public about the topic of stormwater runoff into Lake Champlain. On Thursday, May 12th, between 6:00 and 7:00 PM tables and posters were set up around the school cafeteria. Students stood by ready to explain their findings and have discussions with guests. There were presentations about how nitrogen, phosphorous and animal waste get caught up in stormwater and wash down to the lake. Those nutrients lead to algae and bacterial growth that kills fish and plant life in the water, along with making the water unsafe to swim in. Other presentations showed ways of reducing water runoff. The students demonstrated that they are articulate and knowledgeable presenters. Parents and guests were impressed. Link to 30 Pictures of the event. Check out this 2 ½ minute long video about the erosion table project. NAVIGATORS LEARNED HOW COWS ARE MILKED Ms. Emmons found a creative way to teach milking a “cow” in a safe and age-appropriate way to PreK and kindergarten students. She filled a white latex glove with milk and hung it in place of an udder on a posterboard picture of a cow. On Friday, 5-13-2022, students took turns coming up and to the udder and squeezing milk out of one of the fingers that serve as teets. Each finger had a pin-prick hole at the tip, allowing milk to pass through” much as a real teet would have. Ms. Emmons described the gentle care of the cow that farmers need to display when milking. 5-13-2022. Link to 35 Pictures. STATIC ELECTRICITY TWINS |

BOOKS TO INVESTIGATE IN THE LIBRARY Sachiko's family home was about half a mile from where the atomic bomb fell on August 9, 1945. Her family experienced devastating loss. When they returned to the rubble where their home once stood, her father miraculously found their serving bowl fully intact. This delicate, green, leaf-shaped bowl―which once held their daily meals―now holds memories of the past and serves as a vessel of hope, peace, and new traditions for Sachiko and the surviving members of her family. I dream with Popo as she rocks me in her arms. I wave at Popo before I board my flight. I talk to Popo from across the sea. I tell Popo about my adventures. When a young girl and her family emigrate from Taiwan to America, she leaves behind her beloved popo, her grandmother. She misses her popo every day, but even if their visits are fleeting, their love is ever true and strong. |
