TRIUMPH - STEWARDSHIP CHANGE OF COURSE

Prior to the pandemic, Team Triumph partnered with Mr. Branon to study maple sugaring and to manage some of the school’s maple trees. Now that responsibility is moving exclusively to the H.O.P.E. (hands on practical education program). In place of maple sugaring, the team is shifting to the care of the schools fruiting trees and plants: the apple and pear trees, the blueberries, and the raspberries. On Wednesday, 5-11-2022, the whole team began their new stewardship focus by studying apples. The compared and contrasted three distinctly different types of apples on a range of characteristics: size, color, smell, texture, taste and density. The apples were Macintosh, Granny Smith and Pink Ladies. Later they will be learning about pruning, grafting, pest control and fruit harvesting of the fruit trees in our orchard. There are also plans for the team to help with weeding and planting of blueberries and raspberries. Wednesday’s learning experience was the first time students worked in small groups assembled from the different grades on Team Triumph. It went well. Link to 35 Pictures.

STEAM FAMILY AFTERNOON REPORT

The makerspace staff and interns have scheduled a series of events for children and family members to attend over this and next week. At their scheduled STEAM event, families can have fun creating in venues throughout the school’s library space. They can assemble flying contraptions to try out in the wind tunnel, make racing cars with legos, walk the electrical circuit path, build with blue blocks, create marble pathways on the magnetic wall, learn about gears and pulleys, and more. On Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 pm students and their family members appeared to have a blast with the options. Link to 34 Pictures.  5-11-2022

And, here are 7 more Pictures, this time from the STEAM family evening. 5:00 to 6:00 PM, 5-11-2022.

DISCOVERY BIRDS’ NESTS PICTURES

These pictures were the results of a STEM challenge. We attempted to out engineer birds by constructing nests out of natural materials. The students researched bird nests to help them build nests that mimicked particular birds that can be found in Northern Vermont. They had fun and showed amazing collaboration skills. DREAMERS’ (BROGLE) VISIT WITH FIREMAN NATE

Once again, Fireman Nate took the time to show firefighting equipment to our little students. He answered lots of questions about his gear and the large firetruck.  Link to 18 Pictures.

BOOKS TO INVESTIGATE IN THE LIBRARY

In this celebration of Japanese culture and family and bodies of all shapes and sizes, join a little girl--along with her aunties and grandmother--at a traditional bath house. Once there, the rituals leading up to the baths begin: hair washing, back scrubbing, and, finally, the wood barrel drumroll. With a lyrical text and gorgeous illustrations, this picture book is based on Kyo Maclear's loving memories of childhood visits to Japan, and is an ode to the ties that bind generations of women together.

When a young boy visits his grandfather, their lack of a common language leads to confusion, frustration, and silence. But as they sit down to draw together, something magical happens—with a shared love of art and storytelling, the two form a bond that goes beyond words.
