PICTURES AND NEWS WALKING WEDNESDAY RESULTS This has been a lucky school year for weather during most Walking Wednesdays. We have not had to cancel a single event day and that has never happened before. Students and adults seemed to think well of this Wednesday’s weather as 117 students and 29 adults (146 total) joined the walking school buses. Team Imagination and Team Voyagers deserve recognition for their excellent turnout. Only one more Walking Wednesday remains to be completed this school year and it will take place on June 8th. TRACK AND FIELD FAIR PLAY AND GENEROSITY - May 2022 For Fairfield school, fielding a full team for the 4 x 400 meter race was not going to be possible without an athlete from another team stepping in as a fourth member. This student from St. Albans City School kindly ran the first leg of the relay for SACS and then the last leg of the relay for Fairfield in the same event. This double effort allowed both teams a chance to race. FIVE STUDENTS WERE RECOGNIZED FOR PATRIOTISM ARTWORK These Discovery four students were celebrated by Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary members in front of their learning community team members for their fine artwork. Another student was on a field trip and will be celebrated later. Her art is being held up by one of the Auxiliary representatives. 5-25-2022. LARGE NUMBERS PLAYED KICKBALL AT RECESS TUESDAY 5-24-2022 Kickball is a highly popular activity for many students as it has been for generations. BOOKS TO INVESTIGATE IN THE LIBRARY This book examines the skills needed to become a samurai warrior in 17th-century Japan, including courage, obedience, strength, dedication and fighting skills, as well as the dangers involved in holding such a prestigious position. Each book uses humorous illustrations to depict the sometimes dark and horrific side of life during important eras in history. DRAWING FROM MEMORY is Allen Say's own story of his path to becoming the renowned artist he is today. Shunned by his father, who didn't understand his son's artistic leanings, Allen was embraced by Noro Shinpei, Japan's leading cartoonist and the man he came to love as his "spiritual father." As WWII raged, Allen was further inspired to consider questions of his own heritage and the motivations of those around him. He worked hard in rigorous drawing classes, studied, trained--and ultimately came to understand who he really is. |
