BAND CONCERT - KELLY

The band concert on Thursday evening, May 26th, was impressive for several reasons. For one thing, the number of eager participants in band was amazing especially given that the restrictions associated with the pandemic made it extremely hard to recruit and nurture the skills of students. Participation numbers were relatively low in the last few years. That situation has definitely changed. Secondly, the development of the student skills, at both the junior and senior band levels over this school year was astonishing to witness. The commitment and hard work really showed as students performed on Thursday. Consequently, the large audience really enjoyed the hour-long show.

The younger students started the concert followed by the senior band. Rock, standard band and jazz band tunes were played. The funky last piece performed was a hit.

BOOKS TO INVESTIGATE IN THE LIBRARY

Ruby is unlike most little girls in old China. Instead of aspiring to get married, Ruby is determined to attend university when she grows up, just like the boys in her family. Based upon the inspirational story of the author's grandmother and accompanied by richly detailed illustrations, Ruby's Wish is an engaging portrait of a young girl who strives for more and a family who rewards her hard work and courage.

When old Mr. Haktak digs up a curious brass pot in his garden, he has no idea what use it can be. On his way home, Mr. Haktak decides to carry his coin purse in the mysterious pot. But when Mrs. Haktak's hairpin accidentally slips into the pot and she reaches in to retrieve it, the magic of the pot is revealed. Not only are there two hairpins inside, but there are also two purses!
