Some describe it as prom for this age group. In this years iteration, held on Friday, May 27th, 1-3 learning communities took turns visiting the cafeteria for a half hour session of dancing, balloon chasing and chocolate covered strawberry eating. Many dressed up, did their hair and painted their nails. A boisterous group of seventh graders assisted in making the event very lively and joyful. Teachers danced too. A live student band and three staff singers provided the bulk of the music. Pop songs also provided incentive to dance. BOOKS TO INVESTIGATE IN THE LIBRARY Mei Mei has the six happiest hens in China. She gives them treats and fresh hay baths, and when she calls to them-gu gu gu gu gu!-they all run to her as fast as they can. But one of the hens, Daisy, is not always so happy. The other hens pick on Daisy and push her off the perch every night, knowing that she is too small to stand up to them. Then one day Daisy accidentally drifts out onto the river in a basket and must quickly learn how to survive. When Daisy finds her way home, this plucky little hen is no longer afraid. A heartfelt story of a young girl seeking beauty and connection in a busy world. As the seasons change, so too does a young Hmong girl's world. She moves into a new home with her family and encounters both birth and death. As this curious girl explores life inside her house and beyond, she collects bits of the natural world. But who are her treasures for? |
