GOLDEN DOME READERS - LEVINE

Students were challenged to read at least 5 books from a list of 25 recommended books. Those that did, had a small party on Wednesday afternoon, 6-8-2022. They played a game of Kahoot that tested their knowledge of the books and then they had a small snack. It was an inspiring gathering. One graduating 8th grader continued her streak of reading every book on the golden dome list for the last three years. She received a certificate to honor her reading joy and diligence.  Link to 33 Pictures. https://photos.app.goo.gl/CQJ6uEaRWWQ5oTf77

Mt. Calvary Cemetery

Team USA in conjunction with the VFW and American Legion will be co-hosting a flag retirement ceremony.  We have numerous boxes of old flags that have been prepared by students for a proper retirement.  This is a solemn and dignified event.  Ceremonies to retire a flag can differ from each other.  The short ceremony will include a few words shared by the veterans, pledge of allegiance, taps, and an honor guard with a three rifle volley.  The rifles will be fired as a part of the ceremony.  There will be a fire onsite to dispose of the flags.  The ashes will be buried the following day.

Example of a ceremony - https://youtu.be/tdHXR0PYCuY

Flags needing to be retired can be dropped off at Team USA.

BOOKS TO CONSIDER IN OUR LIBRARY

Zenobia July is starting a new life. She used to live in Arizona with her father; now she's in Maine with her aunts. She used to spend most of her time behind a computer screen, improving her impressive coding and hacking skills; now she's coming out of her shell and discovering a community of friends at Monarch Middle School. People used to tell her she was a boy; now she's able to live openly as the girl she always knew she was.

When someone anonymously posts hateful memes on her school's website, Zenobia knows she's the one with the abilities to solve the mystery, all while wrestling with the challenges of a new school, a new family, and coming to grips with presenting her true gender for the first time. Timely and touching, Zenobia July is, at its heart, a story about finding home.

Throughout history, courageous people like Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and RuPaul have paved the way for a safer, more inclusive society for LGBTQ individuals, and it’s thanks to them that people just like Desmond can be free to be who they really are.

In Be Amazing, drag kid Desmond is Amazing walks you through the history of the LGBTQ community, all while encouraging you to embrace your own uniqueness and ignore the haters.

Desmond is amazing―and you are, too.
