Announcements 6-8-2022

Congratulations

St. Albans City School 8th Grade

Wednesday, June 8th, from 6:00-7:00 we invite the families of our 8th grade students to join us for a final celebration of the years that they have spent at St. Albans City School. We will meet at the front of the school. Students should arrive by 5:45 and we will begin promptly at 6:00. We expect the ceremony will take about 45-60 minutes with time after for pictures. It looks as if the weather will support holding our event outdoors.

CONVOCATION PLANNING

Each year, students and staff from the four schools in the district gather together and brainstorm a presentation and icebreaking activity for convocation. Convocation is the August beginning-of-the-school-year meeting for all employees in the district and it is held at the Collins Perley recreation center. For the last four years students have created an inspirational performance designed to send staff back to their schools excited to teach and help students develop socially. This is the fifth year of the student-based performance program with the largest student group ever involved. 6-7-2022.  Link to 43 Pictures.

PREPARING FOR KINDERGARTEN GRADUATION - MARTINSON

Children in Ms. Dupont’s classroom worked with Ms. Martinson to create kindergarten graduation banners. For these students the transition from kindergarten to 1st grade is a very big deal. Most of them are very excited to be moving up to bigger kids school.

USA FIELD TRIP TO ST. ALBANS BAY PARK - SALIT

Mr. Salit supervised the popular fishing component of the field trip and shared the pictures he took. Link to 10 images.

DISCOVERY BIKE RIDING IN PE - JARVIS, BRANON

It was another perfect day for bike riding. Students mainly circled the bus loop although they also took a spin around the walking path. 6-6-2022

CHICKEN WALK TWINS

Tuesday, June 14th, 10:30am

Mt. Calvary Cemetery

Team USA in conjunction with the VFW and American Legion will be co-hosting a flag retirement ceremony.  We have numerous boxes of old flags that have been prepared by students for a proper retirement.  This is a solemn and dignified event.  Ceremonies to retire a flag can differ from each other.  The short ceremony will include a few words shared by the veterans, pledge of allegiance, taps, and an honor guard with a three rifle volley.  The rifles will be fired as a part of the ceremony.  There will be a fire onsite to dispose of the flags.  The ashes will be buried the following day.

Example of a ceremony - https://youtu.be/tdHXR0PYCuY

Flags needing to be retired can be dropped off at Team USA.

BOOKS TO CONSIDER IN OUR LIBRARY

During LGBTQ+ Pride Month, we recognize the resilience and determination of the many individuals who are fighting to live freely and authentically.  In doing so, they are opening hearts and minds, and laying the foundation for a more just and equitable America.

In this deeply moving and empowering true story, young readers will trace the life of the Gay Pride Flag, from its beginnings in 1978 with social activist Harvey Milk and designer Gilbert Baker to its spanning of the globe and its role in today's world. Award-winning author Rob Sanders's stirring text, and acclaimed illustrator Steven Salerno's evocative images, combine to tell this remarkable - and undertold - story. A story of love, hope, equality, and pride.

Heather’s favorite number is two. She has two arms, two legs, two pets—and two mommies. When Heather goes to school for the first time, someone asks her about her daddy, but Heather doesn’t have a daddy. Then something interesting happens. When Heather and her classmates all draw pictures of their families, not one drawing is the same. This delightful edition for a new generation of young readers features fresh illustrations by Laura Cornell and an updated story by LeslĂ©a Newman.
